JQ pulls Darwin flights?

I might be wrong, but I think Jetstar overnights it’s Pilots in DRW on all red eye flights. Cabin crew don’t. I was reading on another site about no crew hotels organized, so that would make sense.

Otherwise just a high absenteeism on overnight flights with no standby crews available?
Absenteeism of pilots? Unlikely. I think all of this comes back to the covid shutdowns. Basically CEOs (and politicians) were pretty good at shutting things down, but none have the slightest idea of how to start things up again.

Contrary to the title of this thread, JQ only pulled flights for that single night, flights are continuing with all three airlines now. Evidently they are all fully booked as the pax who were disrupted face long waits for new seats.

This is where we really need better consumer protection, EU style.

Qantas will come out and say they can’t afford that. I can see it now, the business will be on the verge of terminal decline should they be forced to face such costs.

Take it out of the management bonus pool.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I can confirm a rumour that JQ mismanaged hotel rooms for tech crew in Darwin and were thus unable to find any other alternatives and therefore had to cancel flights.
Why do crew overnight? The flights are only 4 hours, generally I thought all crew on red eye flights turned around.

Jetstar Cabin crew do but pilots don’t. All Qantas crew stay the night (cabin and coughpit) and I believe same with Virgin.

Return back Of the clock flights are not permitted anymore under the new fatigue management rules. Previously you would Start work around 8pm (an hour Prior to departure) and would finish back in Melbourne around 730am. The deal was previously that the company would offer to send a car to pick you up from home and drop you off for doing these flights. Some people are night owl's and enjoyed doing these flights, but the majority hated them and many would call in sick or fatigued to avoid doing them. But under the new rules its not permitted. Pilots get off but cabin crew do the return.

Welcome to AFF @OrangeHaze96 Always good to have someone with behind-the-scenes insights :)
Thanks Roo. I've lurked here for a while and when I read things like this I understand how frustrating for pax theses things can be. Especially, when they don't understand the real reason. The operational staff do their best but there is very little good will left with management. Sometimes I think that as embarrassing as some screw ups can be, if airlines were just honest to pax they'd get a better outcome. So if I can provide a little insight from the inside on occasion I hope it helps.

Good. I recall doing some of these back to back sectors to NZ. It is, after all, only 3 hours. Of course the rules never actually looked back at what you'd done previously, so there was never any guarantee of your state before the flights. They were, as we were told so many times, "legal". Thank goodness the autopilot knew how to land, 'cos I'm not sure that I did, on some of them.
