JQ J seat availability question

I've booked a Jetstar flight from NRT to MEL via CNS in Business Class (Max) in April and am not able to select seats. From contacting the chat team, they say there are no seats available to select on the flight, which is why I cannot make a selection and that I should speak to the agents at check in to be assigned a seat.

Having not been in this situation before, I'm not really sure what this means. I'm not particularly fussed on where I sit, but I do want to ensure that I get a business class seat and not get downgraded to economy for this flight.

They are still selling business class seats on this flight, but when you get to the seat selection screen it gives the seat selection not available message.

Has anyone been in this situation before and if so, what was the outcome?

hmmm. that's a bit weird. which day is your flight? have you checked any other way to see their availability? expertflyer.com etc? did you book through Jetstar or Qantas? Have you tried to use their app to select the seat? I have found that sometimes airlines have trouble helping (even on the phone) but with their app you can select the seat (if you're entitled to it). I have found that if you book Jetstar through the qantas interface (app or website)) Qantas don't let you make changes through their interface, but Jetstar might. Also, your Jetstar PNR might be different to the one Qantas gives you. I would keep trying. Get the Jestar PNR. Try and make your seat selection on the Jetstar app on your phone.

This is common. They block four to six seats in J. There was a thread about it earlier this year:

Likely only those seats are remaining, hence why there's still tix being sold and the chat team have directed you to the airport.
