Has anybody recently received an email from JQ or phone call offering to upgrade to "Business" a few weeks prior to departure? Should you approach them if you don't hear from them? Travelling to TYO soon and I suddenly regret booking Y.

Can't hurt to call them and see what they're offering. But, do check the price beforehand and make sure you're not overpaying.

Oh and I assume you meant NRT as your destination airport?

Are JQ not selling enough J seats on their 330s/787s? Maybe their normal customers don't know JQ has "Business" on their wide bodies.
Doesn't help that the QF codeshares on JQ metal don't book J seats, even when JQ is selling them.

These emails certainly aren't new.

It was $400 pp with QF points and SC. We only booked it one way to HNL and to be honest the economy return during the day wasn't that bad.

This is a regular thing and not a bad deal for the price. I did this for the overnighter SYD-HNL and it makes a difference even though JQ business is not lie flat. Save your bucks and stay in Y on the way home and watch some movies.

That's v good value, considering Max Bundle (business) alone is a few hundred dollars
