Just trying to find some details on the JQ website about excess international baggage, and the rates for prepaying. Any ideas? Very hard to navigate/understand. I can only see the details for at the airport charges, not for buying before hand.

I lost most of my personal belongings in the Brisbane floods including a large collection of Japanese books, CDs and DVDs gathered over a number of years (which I use at work), so I will be replacing those on my upcoming Japan trip.

I'm trying to work out if it's cheaper to post via EMS from Japan or just to box up the stuff and prepay some excess luggage for the flight home.

Actually, just looking at the Japanese EMS rates, 1kg is 2400yen as opposed to 1500yen per kg at the airport for excess.

Still EMS becomes cheaper at the 10kg mark, so I would still like to find the prepaid rates.

I know how to purchase excess for QF - what about the JQ? Annoyingly designed website!

If you've made a booking already, find your booking and select it, then on the front page of the booking scroll down and there is a button you can click to pre-purchase extra baggage. You can go through the steps to work out the cost, just don't submit it or enter your c/card details!

At the airport - Travel information - Jetstar Airways

There's a table showing both prepaid and at airport rates.

I did that, but it wasn't clear if that was additional per piece or per kilo, and if there was a different price for JQ* class.

My next question is this - has anyone had experience just checking in a carboard box? How did it far? I am thinking about just boxing up all the books and stuff for the trip back, rather than take a suitcase to put it in and be out a few KG on the bag and have to haul a massive bag around with me.
