Hi all,

(Apologies if this has already been answered...)

I'm looking at flying ZQN-AKL-SYD in January, and the price difference between booking JQ ZQN-AKL (via jetstar.com) and QF AKL-SYD (via the Qantas.co.nz website because you can't book from the AU website - WTF?) separately is about the same cost as booking it all through the Qantas website.

Thing is, through Jetstar.com.au ZQN-AKL is only $11 more for points and SCs - clearly worth it. I'd rather just book it all through Qantas for convenience (and presumably so it can be on one ticket), but I'm not sure what class JQ flights book into through the Qantas website?

Appreciate any help anyone can give. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

If you book it as a Jet Starter fare then there are no points or SCs, but a Jet Max fare will earn them.

Ah, on the Qantas.co.nz website it doesn't show "Jet Starter", only "Sale" (and clicking on the JQ flight number doesn't give any details).

Just noticed the Qantas.com.au site however it confirms "Sale" = "Jet Starter", so no points or SCs. Better to book separately then. :)

Thanks.

Booking Jetstar flights through the Qantas website will only allow you to purchase either a Starter fare (with no bundles), or a Max fare (a.k.a. a Starter fare with a Max bundle).

The former will earn no status credits or points; the latter will earn at the Full Economy level (cf. a Starter fare purchased from the Jetstar website with a Plus bundle will earn Discount Economy rates).

You cannot use the Qantas website to book a Jetstar Starter fare with only a Plus bundle, nor can you add a Plus bundle to a Starter (only) fare after purchasing one from the Qantas website.

On the Qantas website, any JQ fare purchased includes 20 kg checked baggage included; on the Jetstar website you must add baggage on top manually (as well as any bundles).

If you want SCs and points all the way, your only option is to select a flexible Economy ticket (which will book into a Jetstar Max fare) on the Qantas website, or have separate tickets, booking your Trans-Tasman on the Qantas website and your Jetstar ticket on the Jetstar website (where you can book a Starter fare with a Plus bundle and checked baggage if you want to).

Thanks mate, have decided to do the latter. Might have to pay one more booking fee, but it still works out the better deal in the long run. :)

Everything he said I was going to advise you to do.
