I'm flying PER-MEL-WLG this weekend and have a question regarding luggage.

The PER-MEL leg is on JQ, but ticketed as QF codeshare (QF5971 iirc).

Considering that its a codeshare flight, do I get the QF baggage allowance?

And can I check my bags through to WLG and check in at the international connections desk in Perth, or do I have to go on JQ and only check in as far as MEL and line up again at International?

Happy flying!

You can have 2 pieces on JQ PER/MEL however the free baggage allowance is only 20 kilos with extra kilos being charged at $10.00 per kilo unless your eticket says something different - check it out.

MEL/WLG you will get 23 kilos baggage allowance unless you are FFSL or above in which case you would receive an extra 10 kilos. Pre-paid excess baggage rates are as follows but you would need to know the weight of your luggage so you can accurately calculate what you need to pay.

Fly - Baggage - Additional Baggage

If you pay excess at the airport you will be up for more money. The best thing to do is purchase one of those little baggage weighing gizmos somewhere on this site so you don't get any nasty surprises.

What is your flight routing on the return?

Cheers

Oz

I would be well under the 23kg (or even 20) mark, but I will have a package of about 20 flags that *may* not fit in my suitcase.

I come back on Monday and my routing is WLG-MEL-PER all on QF. Regarding coming back into Australia, is there somewhere in MEL I can drop my bags before I exit immigration control or do I go upstairs to qf domestic?

I only have the JQ leg to MEL because it was an award ticket and it was either fly JQ to MEL or don't fly at all..easy choice!

another carrier

I suppose thats in stone then. A bit stupid really, considering it's all on one ticket...oh well. Hope the flags fit in my suitcase!

On the way back, at MEL, do immigration, collect bags, pass through customs, Exit, turn left and head up the travelator. Look(/ask) for the special counter for rechecking luggage on international to domestic transfers.

Thanks serfty!

Have been through MEL countless times but never international!

Just had a look at checkmytrip and got the following;

Airline: Qantas Airways QF5971
Operated by Jetstar
Fare type: Economy Restricted
Baggage: 23 kilogram(s) per traveller

Airline: Qantas Airways QF037
Operated by JETCONNECT FOR QANTAS
Fare type: Economy Restricted
Baggage: 23 kilogram(s) per traveller

Should I trust Amadeus and print this off when I get to check in if I have 2 pieces? It's clearly saying I have the QF baggage limit on the JQ sector...

Where exactly does checkmytrip source the 23kg info from with regard to the JQ flt PER/MEL? If it's from the etkt then I think it's a pretty safe bet that JQ would have to honour that amount.

But if you strike someone on checkin whose got a nickname "Opium" - a slow working dope, they might just say point blank that the JQ allowance is 20 kilos.

Can you find out who the JQ handling agent is at PER domestic terminal, ring them up and ask them the question as they're the ones who would potentially being charging you any excess?

On ewould hope you are safe but as ozbeachbabe says you could be unlucky and get someone who will not listen.

My itinierary on QF website has popped up with 23kg on each sector, so that's the issue sorted, I'll be printing that out and I'm not going to pay for a second piece checked...

Checking in with 2 pieces was fine thanks again.

Although serfty your information regarding MEL international -> domestic baggage was completely useless...

QF decided to send me to Sydney instead!!
