I see this happen fairly regularly at the busier times at MEL.

JQ508, the timetabled 1230 from MEL to SYD, is about two hours late and after earlier having an amended departure time of 1345 has now been put back to 1430. It is at MEL 'JQ' "gate" 25.

Meanwhile, "gate" 26 is playing host to a string of arrivals and departures in quick succession (presumably close to minimum turnaround).

Does JQ have an inadequate number of "gates" at MEL and is this sometimes leading to arriving flights being held on the tarmac waiting for a "gate?" (There are no aerobridges if memory serves me correctly for these JQ "gates.") It mightb be better to call them "hardstands."

Is this just a minor inconvenience for those who use JQ or is it becoming an irritating delay to passengers and a costly situation for JQ and its parent QF?
