I've been trying to call Jestar all day but keep getting disconnected. I booked a flight using direct debit (to avoid massive credit card fee) but when I got to the payment part I was told I couldn't do it from my bank.

Not impressed.

Okay so what has that got to do with Jetstar if you cannot do it from your bank?
Maybe give us a bit more information and not just re-open a 3 year old thread from 2007.

well basically I'm trying to find a way of contacting them other than over the phone. Tried 3 times yesterday and got disconnected. Tried this morning and was on hold for half an hour before I had to go to work. Been trying since but its been engaged all morning.

And the point is they didn't state that you couldn't direct deposit from some banks until after I selected it and then there was no way to change payment

My nearest petrol station likewise doesn’t advertise that they don’t accept cards from my bank, and they’re not going to.

On previous occasions phoning JQ I’ve had to wait a maximum of 15 minutes and they’ve always helped the best they could, I’m not sure why you’re having troubles.

Last time I tried to pay via CC and mistakenly entered the wrong info they phoned me up afterwards to get the correct details so the payment would go through. Why haven’t they done this for you? Did you put a contact number on your reservation?
 
After a recent problem that left us stranded overseas, I have come to the conclusion that communication with Jetstar by phone is pretty good if you are buying a ticket. For everything else, try opening the window and shouting. Won't reach Jetstar but it might make you feel better.

Well these agents are not just 'customer service' they are also 'sales agents', and thats the purpose of this outsourced and offshored call centre and thats how the call centre gets paid from JQ.. But the purpose of these call centres are to make money and they do this via sales.

So you managed to book without paying? If not why not just rebook?

Otherwise maybe try avoiding peak times (ie weekday mornings, lunchtime, weekday evenings) as is generally the case when calling any Call Centre...

ps If you call now the wait time is under 1 minute...

Lucky the OP is trying to buy a ticket.

As for direct debit, have you tried to contact your bank to have it enabled. I had to do that with NAB. Now I can "pay anyone".

Which Bank? Maybe someone else here has experience.

Some banks such as credit unions don't allow it to be transfered..

If you bank with one of the following internet banking services, you will not be able to make use of our direct payment facility:

I would suggest finding a family member / friend who would direct debit the fare from their "allowed" account, and reimbursing them. The first time I booked with J*, to my surprise, I couldn't direct debit from my HSBC acct; I had to get my brother to pay for me via his Commonwealth Bank acct:shock: (and reimburse him, of course:!:)....this will be quicker and easier than waiting for J* to answer the phone!!
 
What exactly do you expect??!!!?? Jetstar is a business. Businesses are in the business of making lots of money, not answering your pesky calls or letting you avoid exorbitant credit card fees. What planet are you .....

I am not sure what the OP of this thread is trying to achieve by ringing JQ as others have mentioned, the banks systems do not permit the direct debit to work and I cannot see JQ being able to make it happen just for the OP, there are other options like actually making the deposit at a branch yourself!!!!
