Cuba Street, Wellington is certainly where all the Cool Cats Hang out & is a favourite of mine, in particular the watering holes :)

Flight times leaving OOL for WLG, a tad early for those looking for their beauty sleep @ wheels-up @ 7:30am although I'm impressed with the 2:30pm departure leaving WLG back to OOL.

Now only if JQ could give us MEL folk better departure times for flying over the ditch!

What I hate is the lack of an afternoon CHC-MEL flight usually the only option is sometime between 6-6:30am. That's not a curfew issue.

Agreed, what's annoying is that since MEL has no curfew some airlines , in particular, JQ take advantage of this & schedule accordingly.
It's annoying that QF has no direct flight MEL > CHC & that JQ's flight is at some ghastly hour near midnight.
Your correct that CHC has a number of early departure's it's like the reverse with MEL.
If travelling to the South Island I often fly to AKL & caught a domestic leg down , more travel time, but less bleary eye:)

Not defending JQ or any other airline but they are limited in what aircraft they have and how they can best utlise them - 'ideal' timings mean you only get one return service a day, different times that are not favourables means the aircraft can do two returns a day between Aus and NZ. All airlines want the best times but can't because of aircraft availability, airport slots (most importantly) and things like curfew.
