The current JQ IFE equipped A330's have free IFE yes ?

No: Our latest A330 also offers all economy passengers pay per view seatback entertainment, with a variety of entertainment available on demand. Where available, access to our seatback entertainment is complimentary for Business Class passengers.

Ahh...I did not know this!

Let me change my statement yet again to "I wonder how much JQ will charge for IFE on the 787" :P

I'd posit that the 6 J rows are to account for when the 330s are transferred back to QF (minimal changes required).

If the 787s aren't going to QF, then they only need 3 rows.

Part of the new inflight entertainment for me will be the massive windows with electronic blinds.

Some pics of Jetstar's current (where available - i.e. on most recently delivered airframes) seat back A330 IFE...

Let's remember that basically Jetstar A330 = Qantas Domestic A330 - same, same, but orange. (And the on-board IFE system is set to "pay" instead of "free".)

As markis10 pointed out, JQ's 78*s will have a 3-3-3 configuration in whY.

Yet Japan's ANA (NH) has only 2-4-2. On NH, seat pitch is 85 centimetres while seat width is 46.5 centimetres.

I could not find what the exact cabin width for a B788 is (although one site implied it was 18' v a B773 at 19'3' in the old scale), but apparently it is narrower than the B773's 5.87 metres. The B773ER on some airlines is still nine across if I recall, but others have long gone to 10 across seating in a 3-4-3 configuration.

How are increasingly overweight Australians and other Westerners going to cope with what appear to be very narrow seats on JQ for a nine hour 50 minute trip to HNL or a trip to HKT? The average age of Australians is just under 40, an age when many of us stack on a few extra kilograms.

While many will put up with uncomfortable slimline seating to save some dollars on the airfare, this may be a downside of the new aircraft that many Australians and other potential travellers are yet to realise.

Nice Jetstar TV ad tonight highlighting the features of the 787.
Makes it seem flying It will be a joy.

I may be the only one thinking that these over hyped dom flights are a PR disaster in the making. .eg:

"God my jetstar flight to the goldie was uncomfortable! I'd never fly them on a long flight with those tiny seats"

Have you been on one of their A320's?

The 787's would have to be an improvement on that at least pitch wise.

If those seats are as thin as they are in the video... probably not. Those slimline seats are a nightmare if the person behind you loves to shove their knees into the back of your seat. Feels like a back massage from hell.

Hi it seems that the 787 has a cabin Diameter of 5.4 metres as per below130514003918-787-a350-comparison-story-top.jpg

Agree!
Or when people try to shove the contents of their hand luggage into the seat-back pocket ... this causes large hard bulges to poke into your back. Then they keep pulling things in and out. And lets not forget people constantly tapping the screen (tapping is an understatement ... they seem to think they need to use the same force as if they were nailing a fence).

Can I also add the dropping of the food tray, then slamming it back in, or using it to sleep on, or using it to play drums on, or having their baby bounce up and down on it ... it just goes on.

Interesting visually... They say the 787s are coming, and then that Jetstar will be flying to new destinations. Is the image on screen, while the voice over is stating "new destinations" - that of the Hong Kong/Kowloon skyline?

Okay, so my number one thing is definitely the infant/toddler on mum/dad's lap that is drawn to the orange nob and takes great delight in realising that it falls down after turning it. The first time I'm amazed by humans ability to learn things, the second time I'm starting to wish we were coming into land.

But the knees in the back of the seat? You need to remember some of us are tall and we have a fairly tough time in the short pitch. Jamming our knees in are the only way we can travel unless we fly in a semi squat the entire way (see flylo's sleeping option for an example). I rejoiced when airlines started taking their foot rests out (having those things in your shins suck).

Yes, there's a shot of Japan, and then Hong Kong (flyover IFC in Central).

Sort of makes sense in the long run, if you're planning to start a franchise there you need flights from more than just SIN. I'd imagine they'll have some from Japan too. That is, if they ever get approval.

Will make it interesting though, QF flying A380/A330 and JQ B787, which to choose. I was under the impression QF didn't do too badly on the route with their A380, but a JQ service might signal an end to QF services? I guess they'd be better able to compete with some of CX's increasingly low fares.
