JNB airport hotel or Hilton in Sandton

I'll have two separate overnights required while transiting through JNB in June. First one arrive 4:10pm and depart the following day at midday and the second arrive arrive 4:50pm and depart 7:50pm the following day.

SWMBO is HH diamond. I'm thinking the first one just stay by the airport and second give the Hilton a whirl.

Thoughts? Any airport hotel suggestions? The IC seemed stupidly expensive for a basic room.

We stayed there also last year (I think based on your TR Drron!). More than reasonable for the price.

City Lodge at JNB is a good option IMO and moderately priced. It's located straight up the ramp from the main terminal atrium, beyond the car park/rental cars and is an all under cover 5 minute walk.

The last time I looked the IC JNB was only 30,000 points. If still the case, there is an easy way to manufacture these points for ~$210 USD.

Both. In the recent past, IHG have offered a 100% points bonus which worked out to ~.57c, but that was a rare once-off. Best I've seen since is a 60% bonus, which works out a fair bit higher and not something I would partake in.

For .70c, I suggest you google something like 'priority club/IHG points plus cash trick'. If you go down this route, two words of caution:

1) Make sure that you use the “Points and Cash” option to buy 10,000 points for $70, since there is another less valuable option of 5,000 points for $40.
2) You can only buy up to $280 (40,000) worth of points per day using the “Points and Cash” trick.

FWIW, I saw the IC JNB listed on a IHG Pointsbreak about two years ago (5,000 points per night!).

I thought the IC was a nice hotel. Had a good dinner there too. I would only make the effort to get to Sandton for any overnight stay if I needed the points. I thought the staff in the Hilton lounge were very good but the food was ordinary.
