Hi all.

A question on connection time in JFK terminal 8.
Arriving from Hong Kong on Cathay with 1hr 50mins between this arrival and connection with domestic AA flight departing from the same terminal.

Travelling as a pair. My partner has the inbound CX and domestic AA flight on the same booking and PNR, however, I have a standalone booking for the domestic flight after landing in JFK.

Is there a way I can link our bookings together? If there are delays and we miss the connection is there a way that I can safeguard myself to the level that I assume my partner will be where her's are all on the same PNR?

I hope I explained my situation cearly enough.
Thanks,
Stevo

A note can be put in each of the PNR's highlighting you have a travel companion, but don't count on it to have much effect. It certainly won't guarantee protection on two separate tickets, or that you will even fly on the same connecting aircraft in the event of IRROPS.

The good news, sort of, if that AA has a policy that they will protect on separate tickets when connecting to/from AA from oneworld carriers. The 'sort of' is because it's not 100% guaranteed these days since airlines stopped through-checking of bags. There are mixed reports regarding AA's commitment to this policy, although it seems to be in favour of the passenger.

1hr50mins to clear immigration, collect bags and meet the check-in deadline for your new flight is tight. I had a 1230-1500 connection at JFK a couple months back and had about 45 minutes in the lounge. But i was first in line at immigration and the bags came out fairly quick.

You can buy insurance policies which cover missed connections, but the stipulation is that you should be scheduled to arrive at the connecting airport no later than the opening of check-in for the connecting flight. 1hr50mins may be under the check-in opening time.

Thank you so much for the info. I'll call AA and see if they can add a note. I guess on landing I'll be sure there is no time wasted. I'm hoping I will have a little luck being midday on a weekend and not having to change terminals.
