Jetstars 717's

QantasLink used to operate a BAE146 on the Mackay - Brisbane route. When they finished with the BAE146, an unmarked 717 was flying this route. Now after Jetstar's introduction, a Bombardier Q400 now flies this route for QantasLink. Just the simple fact of it being a propeller plane turns me off flying Qantas to Brisbane - Bring back the 717!

Ditto. QantasLink have got Dash 8-300s flying the MEL-LST route, having given it almost entirely over to Jetstar.

OTT: If I could check my baggage through from PER to LST with Qantas and Jetstar I'd be a lot happier. Last time home to Tassie saw my baggage mistakenly checked through on the JQ flight which saw it get binned in Melbourne. It made my tight connection in MEL even tighter. Interesting that it's possible though using the Qantas system, the baggage label had PER - LST via MEL with the JQ flight number and PNR on it!

Back on the topic, I'm not quite sure where the 737s that used to run the route have gone? Surely they could redeploy the 717s back on this route.

Cheers,

There would be a couple of issues with that.
1. QF does not have the trained aircrew, the Qantaslink crews were ex-Impluse who have now gone to Jetstar, they are still trying to recruit more crews for their expansion. Makes me nearly want to return to flight school.
2. National Jet Systems would need to operate the aircraft for Qantaslink so they would need to have the infrastructure and crews on the east coast.

OOT. I wonder if Ozjet could become another member of Qantaslink and operate the 737-200 or BAe 146 that they have, a la NJS or European Aviation? Do Ozjet do the Norfolk Island runs in their Y configured aricraft?

National Jet is currently recruiting and is expected to grow its fleet over the next 2 years - not sure if that is more Avros or even some of the 6 ex-JQ 717-200s.

To be honest, I don't see a need for the 717s on East Coast routes south of Cairns. The Q400 is able to provide many services efficiently and cheaply, and is the backbone of the QantasLink fleet. I would question where you would fly the 717s. The only possibility is perhaps a new BNE-AYQ, some extra BNE-ASP or some extra BNE-ISA services.

Paul Stoddart and Geoff Dixon have a good working relationship, although I cannot see OzJet operating for QantasLink. The BAe146 is not a member of the OzJet fleet and has not been seen on Norfolk Island since Norfolk Jet Express operated them a few years back.

OzJet operates NLK services on behalf of Qantas using the 737-200 configured as 110Y. IIRC, 07 now have 3 732s and operate services to Norfolk Island, on behalf on APNG BNE-POM-BNE and various charters for airlines and agencies and businesses such as Our Airline (failed Air Nauru).

Cheers
