  • Jetstar adds 15,000 extra seats between Australia and Queenstown
  • Melbourne-Queenstown daily and Sydney-Queenstown 5 per week in July/August
  • Further growth for New Zealand’s tourism industry
Jetstar has added 15,000 extra international seats between Australia and Queenstown this winter as it continues to support New Zealand’s tourism growth.
The airline has ramped up its winter schedule into the southern ski capital from Australia’s two biggest cities with a big jump in flights from Melbourne and Sydney during July and August.
Grant Kerr, Jetstar Head of New Zealand, said Melbourne-Queenstown services would rise from four times a week to daily and Sydney-Queenstown from three to five per week.
“Over the nine weeks from the start of July to the end of August we’ve added a total of 44 extra return services from Australia with 26 from Melbourne and 18 from Sydney,” Mr Kerr said.
“That equates to an additional 15,000 seats in and out of Queenstown during winter.”
Jetstar said it had added the extra flights in response to strong demand out of Australia to visit Queenstown at the height of the ski season.
“Queenstown has built a reputation as an iconic southern hemisphere winter playground and the extra services reflect Jetstar’s commitment to look for opportunities to help grow tourism in New Zealand,” said Mr Kerr.
“As Australasia’s largest low-cost leisure carrier Jetstar is uniquely placed to grow trans-Tasman tourism markets by stimulating demand through our all day, every day, low fares.”
In addition to its trans-Tasman services to Queenstown Jetstar also operates up to 16 domestic flights a week between Auckland and the resort destination.
The extra winter services will be operated by Jetstar’s fleet of 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft and will commence on Tuesday 1 July and end on Sunday 31 August:

  • Melbourne-Queenstown: Daily. Additional services on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Sydney-Queenstown: Five per week. Additional services on Tuesday and Sunday.
