Flying to HNL next week with Jetstar. Received a call tonight offering an upgrade to Starclass for $200 each which I jumped at. Was also offered on the return flight for $250 each which I didnt take just yet but am considering it. I had read about this in this forum before & I just wanted to let others know that this really does happen. What a great start to our holiday :)

Btw have seats 4A & 4B on the way over.

I should also mention that I had already purchased emergency exit row seats so they did take that off the price for the upgrade!!

Congratulations. This happened to a colleague of mine a few weeks ago, flying SYD-NRT, and his upgrade price was also $200. It’s a great investment in your comfort/sanity. :)

How many days out from departure to HNL did you receive the call? Does anyone know if you can upgrade to *class on a QF classic seat award from HNL on JQ at checkin or could I push my luck and contact JQ by phone when in HNL for an upgrade.

Thanks Homer

AV8 I got the offer a couple of days before the flight. They did say I could call Jetstar in Honolulu if I wanted the return flight as well. So maybe you could try there.

Btw We were flying on Jetsaver tickets that I purchased on sale.

If you take a paid upgrade to Startclass, do you still get Business status points/credits?

My reasonable assumption would be yes, as you've been re-ticketed and paid for a higher class of service, in the same way points/SC's are awarded for a JASA/FASA ticket.

I can't think of anything in the T&C's which would clarify this absolutely, but the data passed through to the QFF system would show you travelled in *Class and paid for the ticket thus awarding points/sc relevant for that class of service & distance travelled.

Typically, no. In fact, the official line is no. However, a number of people on AFF have indeed been successful with getting points after paying for a cheap upgrade. That said, you're best off expecting no points and hoping for the best. If you do a search on AFF you should be able to come up with some discussion on the topic.

But this is a pre-purchased upgrade over the phone, the discussion I have read is that you WILL get business SC's/points. If you receive a call like this it is best to ask if you will get them, I seem to recall people asking at this point and being told they will get them.

As I have reported a few times, I have never had a problem getting SC's for On-Departure-Upgrades with JQ either.

Every ODU that JQ provides (at airport or call centre) WILL receive ALL business points and SC's.

It has been like this for about 2 years.
