Jetstar Same Day Change (flex bundle)

Interested to hear if anyone has made use of Jetstar's new free Same Day Change in the Flex Bundle to move to a different flight on the SYD/MEL route. They say subject to availability, but do not mention if it just needs a seat to be available, or if it needs to be a seat at the same price point / fare class?

The flight I want is $230, but I can buy a Flex Bundle on a flight several hours later for $185, and then hope to change it to the earlier one I really want. The other benefit of the Flex Bundle is that it gets Qantas Points / Status Credits.

Same day change is to any available seat (doesn't need to be same price). You can self manage this via the change flights option online (just don't online check in). It works quite well if travelling in non holiday times as there is often a spare seat on an earlier or later flight you can change to.

Some caveats - the flight you actually want may be sold out on the day, although there's plenty of alternatives on high frequency routes like SYD/MEL. Even more likely though is that there will probably be only be middle seats left to choose from.

Just come across this benefit while looking for flights and considering the Flex fare for QFF points & SC.

Surprised not to find many comments about it here on AFF forum since it seems like a good benefit if it works as described.

Has anyone successfully used it or is it a gimmick where on the day you tried and get told there's no seats available?

I've used it to change to a later flight - it works really well and is very easy to do. As soon as it hits midnight on your day of travel you can use Manage Booking to change to any other available flight that day at no cost. The ones I've used it on would have otherwise had hundreds of dollars in fare difference.

Obviously your carefully selected upfront or extra legroom seat will unlikely be available at such short notice and you'll have slim pickings as web checkin will have already begun, but if you need the flexibility and there is availability it's great.
