looking at taking advantage jetstar international sales's starclass fare, however upon reading the T&C, playing with dummy booking along with 2 x calls to Jetstar's help line, i am still non the wiser on whether the fare type is promotional or not.

from reading the T&C, starclass promotional fares are NON-redundable, the dummy booking i've made so far makes zero mention of what i am about to purchase is promotional or not, 2 calls to the help line produced 2 difference responseds.

first guy assured me that whatever is seen on the website is incorrect and ALL starclass fares are fully redundable (less handling fee) while on second call, having asked the other end to try a dummy booking, i was informed all he can see in the system are starclass promotional fares.

lets say i went ahead and purchased the tickets and wanted a refund, i have a case to get my money back? :)

I notice that say on 10-Feb-09 travelling from PER-DPS the flight goes via MEL. It is also cheaper to take StarClass than jetflex? Fares are all over the shop at the moment..

I have a StarClass Promotional fare (which I am flying this week), and the fare conditions when I printed them out with my e-ticket state:

International Starclass fare rules said:
1. If your original booking was made as a StarClass fare, this Booking is refundable, a refund fee* will apply. If your original booking was made as a StarClass Promotional fare, this Booking is non-refundable. A refund will not be applicable if you have upgraded to a StarClass Full fare from a StarClass Promotional fare or another fare or if it is requested after the day of your original scheduled departure.

(N.B. the underline was added by me; it is in no way specifically highlighted in the original print.)

This table outlines the fare rules; in fact it points out that StarClass Promo fares are essentially non-refundable and unchangeable but you otherwise get StarClass service and privileges (QP access, QFF J points and SCs). (The fact that you cannot change the date of a StarClass Promo booking is not clearly explained in the printed fare rules when you print your e-ticket.)

You can upgrade your StarClass Promo fare to a StarClass Full fare, but the only thing you will gain is the ability to change your flight. Of course, you will have to pay the difference between the Promo and Full fares (i.e. rebook).

The fare rules are a bit confusing and I would err on the side of caution and treat StarClass Promo fares (dark orange background on the booking website, cf. StarClass Full which is light blue) as basically non-refundable and unchangeable. The call centre is probably ill-trained to tell you the precise difference between the two kinds of StarClass. Even when I printed my e-ticket, the class of service says "StarClass" - it doesn't tell you whether it's Full or Promo, and I wouldn't know how to find out if it so happened that I "forgot" what kind I am, short of ringing JQ and possibly getting a clueless answer.

I have booked Star Class Promo fares before but the fare's rules (including nonrefundable) were always well and truely out ther.

I have just done some dummy bookings and the infomration is not available.

There is a link to "Compare Fare Types" which did show the differences but this does not work! ...

Also, the page used to show "Start Class Promo" as a a separate fare; in this case there is the one Starclass fare quoted.

This would indicate to me the fares are not "promo".

In any case it is confusing ...

i have noticed on the jetstar website that at no stage does it state that you do not receive points and SC's for *class promo fares. do the points and SC's earned via jetstar take longer than direct Qantas flights to be credited to your QFF account? anyone had experience there?

I've only travelled on a *class promo fare once (SYD-KIX) The SCs and points were in my QFF account within 2 days.

I have done returns MEL/BKK twice and SYD/KIX once on StarClass promo fares.

In all cases I received J SC's and QFF points (eventually).

I suppose I am late with this, but found this page useful for explaining the travel classed on all Qantas flights, but it also lists the Jetstar ones depending on which area you're flying to. And I think answers your question, as Jetstar Starclass promotional fares aren't available for refunds.
