Hi All

I'm a self confessed non fan of Jetstar, I avoid them like the plague and every time I have little or no choice to use them, they seem to stuff me around. I'm flying from HNL to BNE in June and have bought the Business Max package. Yesterday they changed the flight time by 2 hours, killing my connection from BNE to PER but that's another story. My questions for those who have done this journey on JQ6 are:
1. Is there any form of priority checkin at HNL ? I'm hoping I don't have to queue for 2 hours as seems to be the JQ norm.
2. Preference for seats ? I've chosen the middle bulkhead, 1E and F but lots of mixed reviews on Seatguru, etc
3. Lounge access should be straight forward I'm hoping and
anything else I should know.

Thanks in advance

1. I am not sure about at HNL, but J* Business should have a separate check in line.
2. 2D and 2E might be slightly better. 2D has no seat in front of them, so great legroom, and 2E can get out easily. YMMV
3. I think there is a QP in HNL you have access to: Lounges | Jetstar

Enjoy the trip.

I've done JQ business Max back from HNL ( to SYD) & in terms of check in counters at HNL airport they have these single counters dotted around the airport for pretty much all the various international airlines.
And JQ is no different.

You won't find the standard straight stretch of check in counters all in one row, like you would see pretty much in every Australian airport for example.
The check in situation is a bit unusual, although the closest thing I can think of is like curbside check In desks like they have at Las Vegas for example.
From memory I think JQ did have a business class check in counter, but can't quite remember.
I do remember that the particular check in agent circled the " LNGE" acronym on my boarding pass & explaining to me that I had lounge access at the Qantas lounge.

In terms of the HNL Qantas lounge, it was actually very small with very limited food & Bev options & was actually quite busy for only the 1 & only flight departing on my particular day of departure that would have used the lounge. ( I suspect lots of Qantas club members)
I'll have to say that the QF lounge in HNL is probably the smallest in all the international Ports that QF flies to.
The lounge does have two Bathrooms with showers.

Hope that helps.

But business Max on JQ will score you some very handy SC's & the flight crew on this sector usually have a large Australian contingent .... No doubt as to the destination they want to be rostered onto I suspect :)

Have you been to the AKL F lounge?

Hi All

2. Preference for seats ? I've chosen the middle bulkhead, 1E and F but lots of mixed reviews on Seatguru, etc

I recommend bulkhead seats. If you have a standard sized 'rolla-board' bag you can use that as a foot rest (during cruise). Gives you a fighting chance to get your legs horizontal for a half-way decent attempt at sleeping. Plus at the bulkheads there's no one to recline - another massive advantage.

1F suffers slightly from galley light if they don't pull the curtain across properly. Any noise - have a quiet word with the crew and it should solve it.

I've been fortunate to visit HNL fairly regularly. Always flying JQ Business Max as a source of easy SC's.

1. There is a dedicated checkin counter for Star Class. But it is just one counter with a separate line. This being the case it can sometimes take a while as that's the only counter that does Star Class whilst there are 4-5 counters for Y.

2. I haven't flown the 787 yet - but the seat pitch is the same the A330. I'm 6'4" - sitting anywhere but row 1 or 2D was unbearable for me due to the angle of recline (last year in 4A I went the whole flight without getting up - bad idea). I'd be sticking with the seats you selected - so at least you won't be pinned in. Hopefully in 18 -20 months the QF A330 suites will hit the HNL route and I'll never have to fly JQ again :)

3. As others have said lounge is small and minimalist. But beats sitting in an open air terminal in the humidity. Last year I was checked in and had to wait 40mins for the lounge to open at 7. However the BNE departure is later than SYD - so shouldn't be an issue.

Only other tip is in 6 tries I have never received points and SC's from the ex-HNL flight. Always have to send BP to QFF service centre and its quickly sorted.

Have fun

Yes the one time I've done it I was too lazy to check the seat maps, and I spent the entire flight in 2C staring jealously at the bogan in 2D who had obviously just upgraded at the airport :)

QF lounge not bee touched in years, its dismal. One of the attendants has been there some 20 years.

Going on any JQ flight always get a bulk head seat in any class, unless you want the seat in front in your face.

Love at first sight?

I'm still waiting for my points on the HNL/BNE flight on JQ6 in whY to post however SO clicked on the online link for chasing up missing points & received his a couple of days later which was as follows:

Qantas points 4,500 / status points 4,500 / total points 9,000 / status credits 45
JQ 005 BUSINESS BRISBANE/HONOLULU 9,0006,00015,000140

At the time of booking the Star Class airfare was about AUD990.00 then the Business Max bundle was AUD500.00 which we thought was too pricey so were going to stick with whY as it's a day flight HNL/BNE so do-able so just purchased a sale or hot fare with the plus bundle of AUD59.00.

The A330 is a 2x4x2 config so couples can get the 2 by the window (as opposed to the 787 config of 3x3x3).

Then a few days prior to travel we got an email offering to upgrade which was either AUD300.00 or AUD400.00 with the business max bundle which gives you points & SC & lounge access, not that we needed it as both WP.

The 'F' Lounge at BNE in the arvo is deserted mid-afternoon so for a while we had the entire lounge to ourselves until another couple arrived. The economy checkin queue was quite long and as there's no special checkin for WP's you'd want to arrive right on 3 hours before to avoid queueing and maximise lounge time.

I did the chase up missing points request last night online and the points had posted this morning in my account. No idea why going over the points & SC credit the day after travel but doesn't on the way back but I'm not complaining as the process to claim them was painless. The points bonus are based on being QF WP.

1. Is there any form of priority checkin at HNL ? I'm hoping I don't have to queue for 2 hours as seems to be the JQ norm.

There is a dedicated business class checkin counter. We got there 2 hours prior and there was literally no other pax there. The JQ4 HNL/SYD flight that day had been cancelled and pax transferred to our JQ6 flight the majority were already checked in as the SYD flight departs prior to the BNE one so pax were there much earlier anyway.

2. Preference for seats ? I've chosen the middle bulkhead, 1E and F but lots of mixed reviews on Seatguru, etc

The only thing with row one is that you'll have bassinets to your left and right and I would anticipate there being infants in the J cabin due to the email upgrade offers. Our flight had at least 3 infants in J plus several kids as well. Seat 2D has extra legroom if there is no 1D. I prefer the two seats on the side when travelling as a couple.

3. Lounge access should be straight forward I'm hoping and anything else I should know.

The 4 letter code will print out on your boarding pass indicating you have lounge access and the staff in the HNL QP will have a list on eligible pax. Liz in the lounge is always very welcoming and will try and find you a seat. She reminds me of Condoleezza Rice but I think she's Fijian.
