In that case JQ is potentially responsible as the pax shouldn't have been permitted to board. Or... alcohol was not as big an issue as made out? The pax 'just' had a fight.

Sometimes this can be difficult to detect without a breath analyser. Of course opening the duty free after takeoff gets around the breath analyser.
 
Had to laugh at this quote from News.com.

Ah, bogans. You can give them the workshop on effective conflict resolution but you can't stop them from punching their mate in the face to calm them the heck down

No doubt they will go to a Kuta bar for a celebration drink after being released. Followed by a Tigerair or Air Asia flight to HKT

They are being sent back to australia. I doubt very much that DPS immigration would have given them an entry visa.
Should be arriving the day or tomorrow. It will be Jetstar's responsibility to get them back under usual arrangements when passengers get offloaded at a foreign airport.

This scenario is a bit different to when a carrier brings a pax into a country without the correct documentation and the airline is responsible for returning them to their port of embarkation.

If they are banned from flying the airline again it will be their own responsibility to get home. If not I doubt they'd be able to use their HKT/SYD ticket to fly DPS/SYD so I think it's going to be a case of buying a new ticket.

I'm sure they don't have travel insurance but if they did it wouldn't cover them in this instance given the circumstances. Sounds like a good story to feature on the tv show The Embassy.

I see in the article it mentions all the names of the pax so not sure whether the press simply asked the Indo authorities and were told or they needed extra incentive. The media then trawled what must have been the publicly available Facebook accounts of those pax and accessed photos etc from the timeline and posted the said pics giving FB the credit.
 
I foresee Jet* will bring them home, they will cough and moan about how hard done by they are and they are just hard working aussie battlers from the 'burbs who were misunderstood and then they will disappear into the Current Affair archives, where they belong.

Unless one of them is a deadbeat dad with outstanding child support but going on exotic vacations, they will drag out the ex defacto for that one.

Their passport photo page was posted by the media so likely to have been give. them by DPS police for a small "admin fee". Have passengers been banned by airlines due to poor behaviour?
 
Jetstar should seek to recover ALL costs from these six idiots.

Hitting them in the pocket might assist with their education about how to behave in public.
 
I heard that one of the overgrown kids got a broken nose and that caused a heap of blood to go everywhere.
I'm sure that not for a moment will any of them consider that they did anything wrong and they will think that they are the victims due to the major over reaction by the pilot and crew that ruined their holiday.

in relation to some of the passengers it appears jetstar might have a responsibility to get them home? Two passengers were involved in the brawl, yet all six were removed from the aircraft. the four not involved... on what basis can an airline dump them in a foreign country?

I think there's a bit more to the story here. Why were they allowed to board in sydney? why were the served more alcohol on board? why weren't the crew monitoring the consumption of any duty free? or at least confiscate any duty free until arrival? if the pilots spoke to the passengers on several occasions, was the cost of a diversion fully explained? And how effective was pilot training in being able to de-escalate the situation if they spoke 'several times' but nothing changed?

im not condoning any passenger action here, but other passengers on board should be able to fly knowing the airline and crew are looking to enforce as safe an environment as possible.

the media report said they were spoken to by the cabin crew and pilots. One, both, or neither might have occurred I guess!

i appreciate passengers say the JQ crew were brilliant... but that's avoiding questions around how the majority of passengers were allowed to be exposed to that in the first place. Prevention would have been preferable.
 
One of the reasons QZ8501 dropped out of the sky was because the pilots were distracted through troubleshooting a problem. This is the same. Only a few holes of the "Swiss cheese" need to line up for something bad to happen.

Locking up duty free might be a solution but it punishes the good majority, but may need to be considered.

Maybe a stricter assessment of passengers at the boarding stage, or a breathalyser which will really slow things down . I'm not sure if eyeballing them will detect the troublemakers

The pilot it the responsible person and paid accordingly, if he wants to divert based on another employees opinion of the situation then that's fine as well he will still be the person responsible.

When I am in charge of something and a bunch of money or safety is on the line I like to check things for myself before making the decision.

I would have thought non technical issues are properly delegated to the CSM. Yes pilot makes final decision.

i was suggesting the duty free alcohol of the passengers causing the problem could have been confiscated for the remainder of the flight... not that belonging to all passengers. If cabin crew had 'several discussions' with the passengers concerned, why didn't someone think to remove the alcohol during the first or second interaction?

Removing the duty free and risking a physical altercation in doing so? Quite easy in theory but without actually being there we are being way too simplistic in any suggestions here.
