I know there has been a lot of talk abou this... but I couldn't help myself.
I was planning on flying to several international destination in Jan/Feb 2012 (Singapore, coughet, Japan) with JetStar *Class.

Just checked - JetStar want $920 extra to earn status credits in business class ($455, $465 each way) on a flight to coughet - are they serious??? $400 extra for Singapore.

Jet Star is now $500 more expensive than Malaysian Airlines business class to coughet... and I think the standards would be quite quite different on board.

Frankly I just keep hoping that Virgin will join Star Alliance!!!

How dare a business put their airfares up. How dare they do that. Let's all revolt against this uncompetitive behavior, and 'take our business elsewhere', etc etc etc.

Blah blah blah, how dare a business put their airfares up. How dare they do that. Let's all revolt against this uncompetitive behavior, and 'take our business elsewhere', etc etc etc.
I think Jetstar will soon be dropping these fares. They are high to see how they go.

When Jetstar started neither QFF point/SC earning nor lounge access was available for most QFF members.

It was not a long time before these benefits were introduced; presumably because they lost significant business because of that.

I am sure they are trying to push the envelope - I do note that lounge access is still available for QP members even on the base fares.

Really? This response alone would push me to MH. Even if its business fare was more. Which it's not.

Do note that QFCSA isn't an official rep of his/her employer so please don't take that poster's personal opinions to heart. The official company reps on AFF like Red Roo, crazydave98 or Virgin Australia etc all have "Authenticated Company Reps" under their handle and are the ones who are authorised to speak for their respective employers.

For travel in 2012?
LOL
Wait for a sale mate.

A sale in the new case wont help. While the base fare will be lower, to add SC (as this poster wants - though seems odd when comparing to MH as he surely wouldn’t earn SC with QF there), the extra bundle will vary in price to bring the sale fare to the standard fare, and all savings will be lost.

I was pricing some SIN-MEL flights last night as I need to make it home after my quick jaunt to the Maldives in Novmber ..... and they wanted basic Y fare was $400SGD , whilst basic J fare was $900 ..... and then the bundles well was like $1000SGD more if wanted to earn POINTS and SC LOL! That's like ~750AUD LOL

Anyway might have to buy another SIN-SYD return instead for $900SGD and earn 15,632 ffp is a WP.

Same here, was going to book two SYD/HN/SYD in Star Class last week but been busy, now find its called Business Class (what a joke) with same planes, same seats, difference in price for the seats today is extra $1300 what are they thinking?. Plus this ridiculous add on caper.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think I agree with this, better to start out high and then discount rather than hit customers with a price hike if you start out too low.

It's all about marketing & perception, right? :)

I guess it is all about the value you put on the FF points/SC. From the general comments on the changes, it would appear that people don't value the points at the incremental cost that JQ have priced them at.

I wonder if QF previously didn't charge JQ for the FF points/SC but now they are (just like they do for hotels, car hire companies etc), hence the need for them to component price this element of their product?

FTM

For me, the problem is that I now have to pay $900 extra for somthing that was included as standard a week ago on a flight to coughet and $400 extra for a flight to Sinagpore - you don't get anything extra for the increased price.

I'm happy to pay extra to receive FFpoints and SC on JetStar economy flights - in fact I think it's a great idea.

I just can't understand how they can justify the price rises in business for no added benefits - particularly when the price for a budget airline is now higher than the business product on full service airlines like Malaysian and Singapore, whose business class - let's be honest - is a little better than Jet Star.

I think it's a farce

I agree. Anyway changes happen, prices increase but paying upto 3 times the base fare for extra points / sc / and maybe lounge access is ridiculous to me. Note, the ordinary JQ - twice a year type flyer - might think paying 3 times more is OK.

Don't worry, i wont bother people much anymore here. Obviously some people take things too seriously.
Don't understand why things always have to be so formal on an internet forum, and why people seem to take these things so personally, maybe i should change my name?

I read their post differently, I didn’t think they were taking exception to you, though I often miss things.

Stick around, you’re a good source of information and it’d be good to have a beer sometime, in the QP of course :p

Like others here I've now a foot in both camps, had enough, so joined KrisFlyer, see how that pans put over the year or so, at least I shouldn't get these ridiculous changes.

Where can one find Malaysian business class for Jetstar prices? On the Malaysian website, all the business class flights for me ADL to KL or to SIN are well over $4k. Even with price rises, JQ are still in the mid $2k range.
