Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Tuesday 7 November, due to a helicopter crashing at HBA - unfortunately one person has been killed - the airport has been shut down.

JQ715 initially displayed as 'cancelled' but has operated from MEL to LST where it arrived at about 2050 hours/

Wednesday 8 November finds JQ701 (A320 VH-VGR), the 0605 hours MEL - HBA that did not become airborne until 0646 likely to arrive at 0751 hours, 31 minutes late.

JQ7401 (A320 VH-VQS) took off from MEL at 0748 and looks also to be heading for HBA, perhaps southbound as an empty working due to last night's unavoidable disruption. Some passengers on various airlines last night were apparently bussed between Hobart and Launceston, but others had to stay the night in Hobart. On the return from HBA to MEL, JQ7400 took off at 0936 hours on 8 November.

The 0805 hours MEL - SYD (JQ504, A320 VH-VGH) took off only about 10 - 15 minutes late at 0824 but was slowed down by ATC by the looks of its flight path and was then briefly in a holding pattern, so arrival should be at 0955, half an hour tardy.

JQ503 (0700 hours Thursday 9 November SYD - MEL, A320 VH-VQC) took off at 0746 so arrival should be at 0908 hours, 33 minutes tardy.

The 0640 hours SYD down to AVV, JQ603 (A320 VH-VFY) took off at 0733, so arrioval is delayed until an expected 0854 hours, 39 minutes late. This will in turn delay JQ627, the 0900 hours AVV - HBA and JQ626 from HBA back to AVV, as well as JQ604, the 1245 hours from AVV to SYD.

JQ58, the 0855 hours BNE - MEL continuation of a DPS-orginating flight (B788 VH-VKI) took off at 0937 with arrival suggested at 1253 hours, 33 minutes tardy.

JQ631 (1140 hours OOL - AVV, A320 VH-VGQ) did not take off on Thursday 9 November until 1623 AEST, so arrival will not be until 1937, 282 minutes late. It had earlier operated an OOL - ZQN (NZ) rotation, returning as JQ194, arriving OOL at 1410, 20 minutes late. This suggests that another JQ aircraft had failed.

This is delaying JQ606, the mid afternoon scheduled 1545 hours AVV to SYD, whose passengers may have the unfortunate 'joy' of watching JQ608, the 1735 hours to SYD that should push back at around 1750 but depart well ahead of JQ606. The latter will not be on its way from the AVV terminal until at least 2005 hours tonight.

Not to be confused with JQ631, JQ61 (1605 hours MEL - SYD - SGN that at present operates only on Thursdays, with the other four each week commencing from Sydney) took off at 1731. Arrival should be at around 1839, 69 late to prepare for the second sector that is timetabled to depart at 1945 hours. Tonight it may, if all goes well, get away at about 2010 hours.

JQ447 (A321 VH-VWU, the 1945 hours evening OOL - MEL that took off at 2017) should complete its journey at 2335 hours later tonight, half an hour tardy.

The TSV - MEL JQ917 (A320 VH-VGP) should arrive at 2359, 34 late.

Friday 10 November 2017 sees JQ503 (0700 hours SYD - MEL, A320 VH-VQE) not having taken off until 0811 hours. Arrival in the southern capital should be at 0926 hours, 51 minutes behind schedule.

JQ167 (0730 hours OOL - WLG) was airborne at 0813 with A320 VH-VFT. Arrival should be at 1430 hours, 40 minutes late. This is a city pair that would not have been considered viable 20 years ago for nonstops despite how New Zealanders gravitate to southeast Queensland.

The 0800 hours from HBA up to MEL operated by A321 VH-VWU (JQ700) pointed skywards at 1003. Its arrival is set for 1113 hours, 113 minutes late. JQ432 from MEL to OOL, the 1000 hours should be able to depart at about 1155.

JQ815 (1045 hours BNE - SYD, A320 VH-XSJ) took off at 1127 hours. Arrival should be at 1357 this afternoon, 37 minutes late.

JQ563 (1225 hours MEL arrival ex BNE) was almost four and a half hours late.

Tuesday 14 November 2017 should see JQ128 from DPS to ADL (A320 VH-VGH) arriving at 0648, 43 minutes late.

A320 VH-VFU on JQ501, first of the Monday 13 November morning's SYD down to MEL at a scheduled 0605 hours took off promptly - if anything, early - at 0609 but then 'diverted to SYD' which I assume means returned to the gate. It then took off again at 0931 hours, arriving MEL at 1050 instead of the timetabled 0740 hours. This aircraft also operated the same flight on Tuesday 14 - uneventfully.

Thursday 16 November has A320 VH-VGQ on JQ560 (0700 hours MEL - BNE) not having become airborne until 0751 hours. Predicted arrival is therefore 0848 hours, 33 minutes late.

JQ504 (0805 hours MEL - SYD that was in the sky at 0848 (A320 VH-JQX) should arrive at 1005 hours, 40 minutes late.

The 0710 hours from CNS down to MEL, JQ26 (B788 VH-VKJ) took off at 0758 hours. Suggested arrival is 1215 hours, 45 minutes behind schedule. This flight had been on time into CNS at 0440 hours (ex NRT on Wednesday night) so it is not clear why it did not depart punctually for the southern capital.

Later on 16 November, JQ508 (1025 hours MEL - SYD that was airborne at 1146, A320 VH-VFP) shuld arrive at about 1300 hours, 70 minutes late.

The following JQ510 with 220 seat A321 VH-VWN, the scheduled 1045 hours took off at 1151 so should be in to the mainland harbour capital allocated airport gate at about 1305, 55 late.

Southbound JQ509 (A320 VH-VFO), the 1040 hours ex SYD was airborne at 1139 and is arriving at about 1258 hours, 43 minutes late.

This continuing unreliability on Australia's busiest airline route is in marked contrast to what other nations that have come to rely more on high speed trains over similar distances experience: the trains in most cases are unfailingly punctual, and travel times very competitive with the airlines when overall journey time is taken into account. No votes for guessing whether a high speed train is more comfortable to travel in than an aircraft.

JQ942 (A320 VH-VQK, the 1115 hours MEL - CNS that was in the sky at 1250) should arrive at 1510 hours, 95 minutes behind time.

In further on 16 November, JQ513 (1250 hours SYD - MEL, A321 VH-VWN) was in the sky at 1353; arrival is suggested at 1506, 41 minutes tardy.

Another Thursday 16 November delay - and quite a significant one - is JQ796 (scheduled 1455 hours mid afternoon MEL to MCY that took off at 1743 with A320 VH-VGQ) likely to arrive at 1900 hours, 165 minutes behind schedule.

The 1830 hours NTL - MEL that was in the sky at 1929 (A320 VH-VQS) looks to be arriving at 2104, 54 minutes late.

Northbound JQ444 from MEL up to OOL, the 1800 hours, has fared much worse with takeoff at 2020 for A321 VH-VWQ meaning suggested arrival tonight at 2114 hours, 129 minutes behind time.

A320 VH-VGU on Saturday 18 November's JQ511, the 1230 hours from SYD down to MEL looks to be taking off at about 1418 this afternoon. It arrived at 1546 hours, 101 minutes behind time.

JQ29 (B788 VH-VKB, the 1435 hours mid afternoon from MEL up to BKK) took off at 1550. Arrival is suggested at 2035 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

JQ212 on Saturday 18 November, the AKL - MEL should arrive at about 2037 hours, 152 minutes tardy.

There has been late afternoon heavy rainfall in Melbourne (which among other results flooded part of the T2 international terminal.)

The 2010 hours MEL - NTL, JQ478, took off at 2051 so arrival for A320 VH-VFI should be at 2212 hours, 32 late.

The 1955 hours from MEL up to SYD, JQ522 is worse affected as it was in the sky at 2059 for a suggested arrival at 2210 hours, 50 late. VH-VQW has the task.

JQ681 from ADL to HBA, A321 VH-VWT, the 1945 hours took off at 2028; arrival should be at 2251 hours, 46 late. This flight only runs three nights a week. It is surprising that an A321 would operate what one might expect to be a poorly patronised route, but JQ's competitors do not offer this nonstop route.

The JQ DPS - TSV route is marginal according to JQ but locals, the last I read, maintained that it was well supported (although they didn't comment about the yield per seat.) On Sunday 19 November, A320 VH-VFK on JQ101 should arrive 52 late at 0837 hours.

Later on 19 November, JQ509, the 1040 hours SYD down to MEL that did not become airborne until 1146 (A320 VH-VFH) should arrive at 1258, 43 late.

The MEL - DPS JQ43 (B788 VH-VKH) was timetabled to depart at 0955 but did not take off until 1121, so forecast arrival has become 1411 hours, 76 late. This will mean delays for passengers booked on the returning JQ44 this afternoon ex DPS.

Later on 19 November, A320 VH-VFT (JQ518, the 2035 hours MEL - SYD that was pointing skywards at 2120) should pull in at about 2238 hours, 38 minutes late.

JQ511 (Monday 20 November 1230 hours SYD - MEL, A320 VH-VQF) took off at 1322. Predicted arrival has turned into 1451 hours, 46 late.
