Interesting. My daughter has booked 5 Adelaide - Sunshine Coast seats for travel in late July, return in mid-August. Jetstar have advised them that the out bound leg will now be Adelaide-Sydney-Sunshine Coast. But the return will be direct Sunshine Coast to Adelaide. Go figure?

I guess your daughter will have to wear all the baggage and check-in shenanigans in Sydney as well now.

Bugga - hadn't thought of that!

Thanx (I think?)

I would imagine that it will not be too long before JQ moves to a network airline style operation at key hubs. (i.e. handling its own connections in "some way") It moved its check-in system to a network airline style, some time back - i.e. when it abandoned processing check-in queues, by flight number.

Certainly if you set yourself and sell yourself as a point to point operator, and then starting telling people to go via places, then somethng has togive.

True, still selling seats that way, but not so set, anymore?
The article quoted by the OP, might give an insight into a new business direction -
“We have expanded our Sydney and Melbourne flights (to the Coast) so it’s not a case of moving away from the market.”
I mean, spoken like a true network airline operator! [A real point to point operation would see each individual route as "the market", only a network operator would look at overall "directionless" capacity into and out of a geographic location?]

Plus, there is the possibility of future consolidation at MEL (from Geelong)? (If everything old is new again, then Perth (seamlessly) connecting via Melbourne to other East Coast destinations makes sense as a "JQ offer", this would complement QF actual point to point services out of PER, as the higher yield barer. And they would have data comparing JQ:pER-AVV & JQ:pER-MEL [plus QF:pER-MEL], to know exactly how best to manage their yields?)

Some interesting points. I think that JQ is still very much still a "work in progress". As so many changes take place in the industry JQ will start developing it's true character, but this will probably take a few more years and more aircraft. For example what are their true long-haul ambitions? It will be interesting to see what changes take place to their international services with the announcements that are meant to happen this week from QF HQ.
