GRRRR.

Just got a text advising tomorrows JQ11 has been cancelled due to volcanic activity.

From what I can tell there has been an explosion in Nagono - 400km from Tokyo and not anywhere near the flight path.

On hold with call center now.

The volcano in Chile wasn't anywhere near the HBA-MEL flight path and yet it still grounded my Qantas flight for 3 days a few years ago...

Yet they are offering my JQ23 from MEL only 8hrs later.
Something very fishy.

News reports suggest only limited impact.

So am still very suspicious here (albeit the Business seatmap had been showing only one spare seat in J class on JQ11 for weeks)

On the upside, I get MEL F Lounge, but miss a night in Tokyo, and have to fly on an A330 overnight (admittedly in JQ Business - but I picked a day flight for a reason) rather than a Dreamliner.
If JQ23 is on time then got 3hrs to get to HND for my JAL flight to cough, which should be ok.
And gotta get Hilton Tokyo to onsend my prepurchased SIM card to Hilton Fukoaka.

JQ23 was also cancelled by JQ out of Melbourne yesterday.

Can't make booking for either JQ11 (OOL) or JQ25 (CNS) tomorrow - but might just be because too close to date??
Are they being more cautious about Dreamliner 787 versus 330.

After checking schedules, thought I might try
JQ952 SYD-CNS, JQ25 CNS-NRT

After initially being told that I had already used my one free change (lets just say someone got some terse words)/

Was then told that JQ25 tomorrow also cancelled.

Going to be mayhem with 2 of 3 JQ flights to NRT cancelled!
