As you probably already know Cairns is currently being used a hub to Japan for JQ with flights to Tokyo and Osaka. This serves a really great purpose for those that want a LCC to Japan and is great for Japanese tourists that want to visit far north Queensland.

If it is showing sold out and immediately previously had discounted fares available, there is a possibility of cancellation....

Appears I've lucked out! They have started selling seats again and the latest travel alert suggests the schedule is basically locked in at this stage for everyone who hasn't heard directly from the airline.

My mother within the last 12 months booked one of these QF>JQ flights to get to BKK as she didn't want to transit SYD and didn't realise what a shambles it would be transiting SIN. She vowed never again. Turns out she gets her wish.

My wife had one of these transfers going back to Thailand (last minute trip) a few years ago and it wasn't too difficult for her as she doesn't fly without me often.

I've lost count of the number of times I've used SIN T4 or even KLIA2. The transfers are OK and nothing like a DMK-BKK or OOL-BNE transfer.

The Tokyo route is more reminiscent of the direct QF services to Tokyo, before AO (re-)appeared. There was (at least) two daily services, one of which flew onto BNE (with Domestic on-carriage pax) and one to SYD. Can’t remember the flight numbers… but I’ll have them somewhere on my laptop to report another day.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more long, thin JQ options from Oz non-stop to Asia.

Is the more adventurous part of the Australian market (i.e. those that travel to more than just Bali, Bangkok & coughet) big enough to support more non-stops? I guess Japan is quite popular. Places like KBV (which sees a range of seasonal/charter services from Europe) , CEB, KLO, DAD , CXR, and LOP come to mind.

But not sure if a more likely "long thin route" would be MCY-DPS. Or CBR-DPS. Or for that matter HBA-DPS.

Just don’t expect lie flat seats anytime soon - well, never. Lucky to see recliner J if those routes are left to JQ narrow body.

QF seem stuck between protecting their main brand on routes such as SYD-SIN, and the obvious public demand for LCC options. Hence they won't let JQ compete out of SYD to SIN and we are more likely to see Scoot increase flights.

They'd only ever do it out of Badgerys Creek - JQ better fits the local demographic, and given it'll most likely only ever be an LCC airport, they'll probably have little choice but to introduce a competing service once TR/SQ launch services there.

We booked HKT to SIN then on to SYD on Qantas. I was offered a direct flight HKT to MEL on JetStar (no thanks and I'd have to pay to get to SYD) or a full refund (how will I get home from my holiday) or I could just accept that the HKT to SIN flight was canceled and book my own (at my own cost) to SIN then take the Qantas flight to SYD. Not happy. I will try get my HKT to SIN reimbursed via JetStar but it's not looking likely. Honestly, we are very disappointed by the lack of options offered, not to mentioned the extensive wait time on hold with Qantas to be told this disappointing news.

Another option they could have offered was rerouting you via BKK, QF codeshares with Bangkok Air from HKT to BKK and of course then flies between there and SYD. But hey you only buy a bundle of rights. Not a flight.

I assume this was one ticket? They're not offering a refund of the HKT-SIN sector or replacement of that sector? Swap QF for JQ seems like a huge downgrade.

Do Air Asia or Scoot still fly HKT-SIN? I know its out of pocket but that's best option if they don't offer option via BKK.

The re-route to/via MEL should also include the final leg for travel up to Sydney! As per the terms and conditions of carriage.

Did the offer of JQ to MEL include all the extras like meals, seat selection, entertainment and a snooze pack (blanket etc)?

The main issue with a partial refund is the value of the HKT-SIN sector, which as part of the whole HKT-SYD ticket, might be very little, if anything at all.

I called QF today re my booking: MEL-SIN-BKK. The consultant looked for alternative flights from SIN-BKK but finding none suggested I call JQ.
I gently reminded her that I booked a trip from MEL-BKK on an 081 ticket.

I then suggested that I would accept rerouting on QF MEL-SYD-BKK and even suggested flight numbers.

She went off to check and after several minutes (she apologised for the time it took) rechecked the preferred flights, typed a bit and then said it had been sent to ticketing. And it would soon be visible in the app.

I thanked her profusely and rated her highly.

Being polite and proactive has provided the desired outcome.

PS the booking is for flights over the Christmas period so there is a real possibility they may not be available much longer.

I've got a LHR>SIN>BKK ticket on QF/3K and despite numerous emails saying they'll review and be in contact with alternative flights, all thats happened is the 3K flight no longer shows in MMB.

Hoping they'll reroute LHR>BKK direct on Thai or Eva. lets see.

That's not a 3K flight. It's a JQ A321neo that operates MEL-DPS-SIN under the same flight number.

Looks like they have moved many people off the 3K SIN-DPS flights and onto that JQ flight. I have one SIN-DPS later this year on the JQ flight, seat map was pretty empty before the announcements, few weeks later only about 10 seats left and the price has jumped to something that is nearly sold out.
