Jetstar adds Melbourne - Colombo

Ten hours with no service element to break up the time is hard :( Qantas, more than other legacy carriers even, keeps the drinks and snacks flowing for pretty much the whole flight.

It’s easy to do so with your own snacks, and/or paying for your own meals and/or purchasing a suitable bundle as you see fit. They have service. It’s just not free.

True but UL economy is the direct competition here. Only flown business with them (which was pretty good TBF) but not sure they'd keep the drinks as flowing or whether the price would be as competitive.

Could fly a better airline though this would involve a change of planes (including QF possibly changing in India)

Are the Sri Lankans ready for the mass influx of bogans?

Bogans don't choose their holiday itineraries by the presence of Jetstar flights. This will have backpackers, people visiting family, mid range tourists wanting to save a few $$ on their flights etc.

Anyway parts of the south coast of SL have basically been colonised by Russian tourists. They'd appreciate the bogans much more.

MEL has a huge Sri Lankan population. And Sri Lanka is a hot international destination at the moment.

True, it’s the ‘free’ bit… a snack every hour …that helps pass the time in a fun way.

I've seen quite a few people enjoying a "snack" every hour in Jetstar med-long haul (usually a liquid snack !).

When it’s say $300 less than a full service carrier, that gives you a bit of cash to splash to compensate for the lack of free snacks.

Travel via MEL is a bit out of the way for me.
An A321XLR from Perth to Colombo would improve the options I have for wandering

Kind of. I'd be happy to pay for a proper airline tray meal if JQ offered it, but the best I could pre-order recently on the ICN-SYD route was lasagne in a cardboard box.

I asked if I could buy a soft drink to go along with it, but the only drinks being offered for passengers with pre-ordered meals was water/tea/coffee that were included, and I was told that I would have to wait until another trolley came through when they would be selling snacks and drinks to all passengers.

Aside from the lack of any decent meal options available (well at least the lasagne tasted okay), despite all the hate that JQ gets on here, it was otherwise like any other long flight in Y and I wouldn't have a problem with doing it again.

That's a pain, yes. Although for those of us fortunate enough to be able to access a Qantas Lounge before departure, sometimes I get a can of drink from the fridge, and forget to drink it before I leave the lounge ;) Can come in handy for this problem.

Yes it is (like any other flight in Y). I do SIN-MEL-SIN regularly. Agree JQ's meal options are limited. I will use JQ MEL-SIN if I have no particular need to be back in SIN on the day I am booked (that specific flight is regularly delayed or cancelled) but usually avoid them SIN-MEL (if doing LCC timing wise , I prefer Scoot day time flight vs JQ overnight). But Scoot poops all over JQ in terms of hot meal choice (usually 7-8 options instead of 2 on JQ , and probably has a little more protein in the meals too (Probably 40 g instead of 20g of meat in a typical dish 🤣 ).

Yes, that's good, but 3x3x3 on a 787 for 10 hours with any amount of service is pretty brutal, from my perspective.

Guess you won’t be signing up for this! 😳

But at least QF currently fly A330s to India - which I would prefer over a 787 if relegated down the back.

I never understood the complaints from the BNE FF’rs complaining about an A330 to LAX? 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I agree, a 330 would be far more preferable.

However, for a booked flight to MNL in March, I remorsely felt I couldn't happily handle a 330 in Y from SYD (8 hours), so I cancelled it and booked CX PE for not a lot more. And I do expect to get seamless access to the First Class lounges in HKG (we'll see how that goes).

OT, but I had to settle for whY on an A330 SYD-SIN just after Covid. It wasn’t awful in the bulkhead window seat and the J crew kept popping back with glasses of red to help numb the pain…😂

Currently in the Pier F thanks to that leading zero

I can’t see LAS happening? The city is in melt-down, tourist wise, with numbers plunging.

I went to LAS last year and it was decidedly less fun than 10 years ago :(

Resort fees are ridiculous… we paid USD45 or something for a bottle of water and ‘document service’… they’d notorize/witness two documents for you, for free. 🤷‍♂️

I reckon prices would have to come way down, and service and food improve for JQ to even consider the route.

And now on top of anything, Aussies are going to get sluggers an extra USD100 to visit national parks.

First couple of HTI flights saw hordes of pax head to the info desk at the airport asking where the caravan park was?
