I still remember coming in to BKK on a Thai flight, cleared the fence, see the runway and an old lady decided she's get up and head to the coughper. Poor old FA's started yelling at her whilst still buckled in, only to have her charge over and give them a mouthful in Thai as we bumped into the tarmac.

People are weird.

Well I sympathises with FA also.

Looks like his popularity is growing exponentially anyway, at least at Facebook!

Poor bugger, reached his breaking point.

Possibly shouldn't have released the slide, but perhaps that was better than whacking passenger which might have also been tempting.

Or perhaps not wanting to be whacked yet again by the same unruly pax.
It also has me wondering why his colleagues on the flight apparently did nothing to assist him in dealing with the ill manered pax.

plane was still taxiing when the drama occurred. Doesn't really fit with the 'don't stand up' message if half the cabin crew get up. Was mulling muself over when the slide was deployed - had the plane reached the stand, or was it still taxiing? So many unknowns in this story

cheers

It would be an interesting story to share over a beer;)

Re: JetBlue flight attendant Steve Slater swears at passengers, then exits plane Rea

I know it is OT, but surely the time has come for FAs to stop trying to prevent people from standing whilst the aircraft is taxiing.

I know I hate it when people stand up before the aircraft has stopped moving, but surely that is the passenger's risk?

Maybe a warning upon descent or after landing that "we strongly recommend passengers remain seated until the aircraft has come to a complete stop" would suffice. Or maybe have them sign a disclaimer at checkin that they understand the risk?

Then if standing passengers injure themselves, the rest of us still seated can just laugh at them (and walk on them as we make our way off the aircraft).

Is it really such a big deal?

A "loose" passenger is not only a threat to themselves but also to other passengers. Can you imagine if a pax looses their footing, then they end up flying or falling into other pax in the cabin?

The resulting law suit would happen anyway, but of course there would really be a question as to whether it was the fault of a reckless pax who stood up or a negligent airline who should've enforced them to sit down. Make no mistake, the latter clause is still credible even if pax were told to disclaim the airline of liability.

Re: JetBlue flight attendant Steve Slater swears at passengers, then exits plane Rea

Well, I'd agree with you Anat01, but I've travelled on trains and buses. Passengers are nearly always standing; and those vehicles are travelling much, much faster than a taxiing aircraft. No law suits in sight.

No

It's puts all passangers in danger, not just the pax which has decided to stand up whilst the plane is taxiing.

I've actually hear a very good explanation of why you need to be seated whilst the plane is taxiing. When moving on the ground, just like in a car, the plane may need to stop suddenly or turn unexpectedly to give way to other traffic.

Whilst you could argue that busses allow people to stand in them whilst driving, you oftan have a much better view of the outside world in a bus, and there are poles \ rails to hang onto. Also when you stand on a bus or train, you usually stand in a much more ridged way which means that you are in a better position to "absorb" starting \ stopping \ turning. It can be quite difficult to actually walk along a moving bus without holding onto anything, which inside a plane, apart from the seats, there is nothing to hold onto.

I know myself that there has been several times the pilot has put on the anchors hard whilst taxiing.

Re: JetBlue flight attendant Steve Slater swears at passengers, then exits plane Rea

Couldn't agree more. If those standing up are hurt although its their own fault it causes a delay. Also they are usually clutching sharp edged laptops etc and being belted on the back of the head by one is not the way to start or end a trip.

Have to agree with you there, plus braking suddenly on the road is not unusual.

In saying that, there mayn't be law suits, but they (LOTFAP anyway) could always start.

In addition, how deep are the pockets of those who operate buses and trains where people stand? (Government agencies don't count). Now, how about airlines?

Just remember that we are never going to suitably accommodate all the 'prats' of the world. Maybe it's time to let a few of them wipe themselves out :!:

I love that idea as much as you concisely expressed it.

Unfortunately there are some people (let's leave it at that) out there who think otherwise of such an idea.

Slightly OT but just wanted to add, remove the safety/warning tags from everything and let the problem solve itself ... :!:

Given it is reported in Cantonese, most AFFers here they would not have understand what it says anyway :) Good concise reports for anyone understanding Canto though.

Re: JetBlue flight attendant Steve Slater swears at passengers, then exits plane Rea

What was that bit at the end with the guy in his underwear?

I saw another animation on local TV here that looked slightly different, but it’s amazing they can churn this stuff out so quickly.
