Air India is a continual loss making basket case and the governments laughable attempt to sell it have garnered no buyers
And even IndiGos latest qtr it barely made a profit, down 98%
 
Surprising situation these airlines seem to be in considering the population base India has and the surging middle class happy to travel.

Perhaps it has something to do with (a) the price sensitivness of the population and (b) sky high fuel prices over there amongst other reasons.
