Hi All,

Long time no post. I'm wondering if any of you AFF'ers out there have been successful in receiving a JASA UUP (i.e. upgrading a JASA which books in U class to F on points)?

I couldn't request online, had to call (typical of QF systems really) but the fare conditions are as if full J, including upgrade options, so I thought I'd give it a try.

The J cabin on A380 isn't so bad, but the F will be better

Interested to hear if anyone has had any joy with this yet?

Did they list it for you when you rang? What does your account say when you go into your booking?

I wasnt aware JASA were listable for Points-upgrades to F:confused:

I haven't tried, as I've not taken a JASA on a flight with first class, but from the T&C's, they are allowed:

16.1.3 Flight Upgrades are not available when travelling on Restricted Fares (except for those Segments with a Qantas (QF) flight number booked in Z or U class entered on the itinerary as part of a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award), Codeshare Flights or Qantas & Partner Classic Awards. Otherwise, Flight Upgrades may be requested only on paid travel or Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards on a confirmed and ticketed Qantas domestic or international flight booking on a service operated by Qantas, with a Qantas (QF) flight number, in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

Such upgrades may be lower in priority (within Status levels) than other Business to First upgrades classes (J, C, D, I), but they should Qualify.

I am considering requesting such for SYD-SIN in June (QF31) but probably won't.

There has been reports of people doing a change online from a JASA to a FASA once the booking has been made for a small amount of $$$ extra! Why upgrade and play the lottery if you can guarantee a seat?

Yes, I was one who reported it, however it only applies if there is P class availability, in this case, there is not, so it's back to the lottery for me. (And in addition, I have already changed this flight online once, so cannot change it again. You would not get the cheap upgrade rate if you call - this is surely a system anomaly... ;)

I'd be interested to hear if anyone had any success, purely for my own interest. I will of course report back but not going until April MEL-LHR.

And yes, it is listed in my booking as the usual upgrade 'requested' status - but you can't do it online - had to call the premium desk. After many conversations with agents at QF who appear to know less than many of us and are not familiar with the Ts&Cs, a JASA or FASA takes on its own set of fare conditions - usually upgradable, changeable, etc. You are of course limited to flights with availability of U or P class for the good deals, but I did have a U bucket availed by making a change request on a JASA previously... sneaky sneaky ;)

I would think fare class would only come into within a band, i.e. if there were more WP requests than seats...

I would consider trying the change online function, as on that sector i've snagged a FASA for around SGD$300 in cash... :D

I am pleased to advise this process actually works:

1. Book JASA
2. If no P class availability to do a sneaky change for a few hundred bucks, call the premium desk to request an upgrade (I guess normal FF service center should do it also)
3. Hope and Pray

I was lucky to get my upgrade from J->F for my recent MEL-LHR flight. A380 First is rather nice, and a guy could get used to it.

Alas, I'm back to lowly J ;) for the flight home as it's on a BA ticket - hence no upgrades :(

Also posted zero points/SCs but premium desk sorted that without issue.

Happy travels!

Good work, now to find that elusive JASA at classic award levels ;)
Indeed... my tip is to book well ahead.

Now, I don't endorse this practice, and it may or may not have actually worked for me (cough), but if you were to book a JASA in a U bucket (classic rate), you could call up the premium desk and ask for another U seat to be availed to change to another flight where there is no U class available... They will [annoyingly] convert it to look like a classic booking, but it's still a JASA ticket with JASA conditions, so applying to the service centre will get your points and SCs allocated post-haste ;). You didn't hear it from me...

:p

Hi all,

Long time follower first time poster. After much help from this site I was able to book a JASA BNE to HKG via PER for 120,000 points and $650 cash. Before my return trip back i wanted to change to an earlier flight however had no luck finding another U seat available on QF30 via MEL, However afteer a call to the call centre in Hong Kong the sales agent went to work and called me back in around an hour with a seat on QF30 in first class for an additional $280!

Made a great end to the trip I also earned points and SC at First level, I'm only a PS.

Hope this info helps

Hi i was just wondering if one were to do this, would u get F SCs and points? How do u actually upgrade? With points or cash?

Upgrade with points - always points/SCs from the original booked class (i.e. J SCs)
Upgrade with dollars - upgrades the fare - F SCs but usually very expensive due to low cash value of JASA (exception is P class availability, becomes the magic FASA) (or is that JUFASA?) ;)

Of course, don't do any of these things as there won't be any F seats left for me ;)

Got it thanks. :) Wont countenance a cash or points upgrade if no P as too expensive :) but the flight i want has P so was gg to do that :). Was wondering if can request for P to be released to do a cash upgrade! Maybe will try!
