Hello all,
I have never booked a JASA before and as I am going to Cairns for a short break in August, I thought it might be a good opportunity to give it a go. How do I know if the JASA is a better deal than just paying for a ticket?
I can book a JASA for 24 000 QFF points and $154 from Brisbane to Cairns (earning 60sc) or 24 000 and $367 from Brisbane to Sydney, then Sydney to Cairns (earning 120sc).
Any help would be appreciated.

Business class will be a lot more than $154+$367 for a paid ticket so it just depends how much you value the FF points.

A well priced JASA will always be better than paying for a ticket. Seems to me the dilemma is to go via SYD or not. For an extra $213 you will get an additional 60SC (about $3.50/SC not so bad, but not fantastic either) and an additional 1970 points (for an extra 3-4 hours travelling time). How important are the status credits to you?

If you do book the BNE CNS via SYD trip, enjoy the bemused look if you do human checkin, I did the reverse a little while ago and the CNS checkin asked me twice if I really wanted to go to Brisbane via Sydney, I was happy with the knowledge both planes were lightly loaded and I could finish work with a colleague on the Sydney flight, the SCs and extra points were icing.

Unless your chasing points, JASA is simply not worth it for a 2 hour BNE/CNS flight IMO.
