Hi all,

i am going to go the World cup in Brazil next year.
and my planned route is a bit complicated! as it is all ways with SC and points to gain!
So the plan is
SYD>LAX(QF) LAX>MIA(AA) MIA>GIG(AA)
returning GIG>JFK(AA) JFK>LAX(AA) LAX>SYD(QF)

As Gold QFF what can i expect on myAA legs? points upgrades?

But back to the point at hand! i would like to try to book the Sydney-LA leg as JASA
I know i need to call up get it. and the is the 130page long thread on the success stories over at
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....am/has-anyone-had-success-call-51720-131.html

130 pages is a lot of posts to comb through!

what question i really want to know apart from dates and destination what other info do i really need for this!?

Any help would be great thanks guys!!!

You can't use QFF points to upgrade AA flights (or any other airline than QF).

After the last two Socceroos results my inclination to go to Brazil has dimmed a bit....

But have fun there and hopefully you can max out the SCs and points... :)

I am English but not going to watch them. chose 3 stadiums and going to watch what ever games are on in them!

thanks
have you had any luck with the JASA?

:)

Search for a classic award for the dates you want, if there's one available it means there's U class available and then you can phone up and try get a JASA instead. As far as I know, you can't then use points to upgrade a points booking. As for your AA legs I'd suggest looking into a YUPP/KUPP so you fly in F and don't need to worry about upgrades ;)

Dan171, AFF is chockas with good information and there aren't many shortcuts to acquiring it yourself I'm afraid.

I'd advise you to explore the discussions that look promising / are aligned to your intended use of points and look at "New Posts" every time you log on... and you may find it worthwhile to do that about every day

There are often stickies at the front each Board that have some key issues summarised - they are full of nuggets of information.

As to your specific quest:

  • JASAs to/from USA are very popular, and limited, and planning far ahead (about a year) will mean the difference between getting what you want, when you want to travel... and not.
  • YUPPS & KUPPS are ways of getting First Class travel on AA at very reduced prices... with some strings attached
  • AAdvantage is a program to belong to, supplementing QF usually, that provides access to Aawards and Upgrades on AA metal, and sometimes a lot more. :)
  • If you're planning to travel to a major event such as World Cup I would think you need luck to get PAID tickets, let alone Award tickets

Not trying to be negative at all - AFF is a fantastic resource and the research on here has changed my family's travel astonishingly and been a pleasure to invest time on.

(Belated) welcome and enjoy your research, results... and contributions :)

Thanks, I agree, AFF has been invaluable in the past especially discovering the JASA! i only got to do it the once before it was taken away from me (online anyway) I will defiantly be putting the effort in try to find the best way to maximise this. but having a bit of passive research, where info can come to me doesn't hurt! who knows if i would of ever discovered the YUPP/KUPP on my own!

anyways, I was thinking as its a convoluted way of getting to Rio via LA the would be a better chance for an award ticket on that part of the leg!

Definitely want to hear of your planned travels to World Cup... and I do hope you score the JASA's, etc required!

Well the YUPP/KUPP looked promising! But because of the international leg in the middle of it, its kind of a bust!

LAX>MIA(AA) MIA>GIG(AA) GIG>JFK(AA) JFK>LAX(AA)

still its not too bad $5k for J compared to $2,500 for economy depending how much i can get the QF leg still might be an option especially for the SC!!

The QF leg even this far out (8 months out) has no J out of SYD, MEL or BNE :( so might just be a premium ASA
