According to Airlineroute.net:

@airlineroute: JAL to launch Boeing 787 service on Tokyo Haneda - San Francisco from 01SEP13, Tokyo Narita - Sydney 01DEC13, Tokyo Narita - Bangkok 02DEC13

Presuming all goes well from June 1 when they re-introduce them post-grounding....

Fantastic news! I am looking to spend my 4th Xmas/NYE in Japan this year... I may just give this a shot and not fly JetStar for once to Japan

I guess positive that we might get to fly this... Well Sydney siders will, but you never know... Hopefully it has a much better performance record between now and then...

Another route where QF offer is very second class.

I dunno- still no proper flat bed in their business class? It might be a bit better than on the 777s but the images still look quite uncomfortable compared to proper fully flat seats. A real shame as I've found no fault with their service at all- but those slippery seats in combination with the overheated cabins?

JL anticipates the toasty cabins will assist comfort levels when flying to the winters of Japan ;)

The good news is that the 787 will have the Shell Flat NEO seats which are a vast improvement on the Shell Flat seats from SYD-NRT. These seats are currently on the USA routes and have more room for us tall people plus much better storage. I agree about heating although our last flights (SYD-NRT-LAX return) were much better than previous flights. Even with the heat, Japanese people wear the provided cardigans and a blanket while I am sweating in a t-shirt.:)
