Hello everybody,

Question for you all, if i was to look like flying some JAL flights soon (feb 07) what would be the best idea in terms of miles ?

As they are not oneworld yet i cant send to QFF. :(

Should i sign up for the JMB card from JAL (free) and send some miles into that, and then what is it good for ? can i get them somewhere else from there ? or should i look at one of the partners programs like Cathay ?

Evan

I would be crediting them to my AAdvantage account. They don't earn q-points, but do earn AA miles.

Then i may be tempted to do something silly and enter a challenge :)
Good thought.

Remember what NM said. They will give you AA miles for redemptions but JAL flights will do nothing for status qualifications, except lifetime Gold/Platinum, so it would not work for challenges either.

This may only work on AA codeshares on JL metal. e.g. AA5821 flies from ORD to NRT on a JAL 744.

Correct. JL flight number are no good for the Challenge. And no good for earning towards annual status qualification/renewal as they do not currently earn q-points/q-miles. But they do earn AA miles so might as well get some benefit from them.

I assume that once they are officially part of OneWorld we will also earn q-point when flying on JL flights.

I was aware JAL will not collect q-points but i mean that since i had some AA miles (currently i am not an AA member) i may as well add some more to make them usable for me.

May have solved my own problem anyway, changed my itinery by 1 day and waited and extra day and the JAL flights are no longer so cheap, seems i may just get the QF option.
Pity the QF options are also getting more expensive, and harder to find.

One of the QF flights is codeshare Asiana airlines with the 777's and economy 34" seat pitch, sounds a lot more comfortable than the typical 30-32 you get down the back, even an extra 5cms will be welcome :)

I have taken this flight, not as a QF codeshare though. The Y seats in the 777, have loads of room, legroom and width, ahmm....recline is decent too and PTV (not AVOD), the headrests do not move though.
Service from the OZ cabin staff is wonderful and if you take this option try the Bim Bam Bap meal, of course you need to like Korean food.
