JAL can you upgrade at airport ?

As JAL appear to allow different class of bookings , can you ever get a deal at the airport to upgrade ?
For example Syd to LHR ?
Appreciate the advice

When flying to Japan in the past I've seen notices posted at check-in with prices for upgrades. It was pre-covid so I can't remember the prices and I'm not sure if they still do it. I think flights are quite full at the moment, so maybe not.

Yes pre Covid it did happen. I had seen those signs at NRT and LAX. no idea if they would be doing it now.

From Economy to Premium Economy would cost you AUD350 for the SYD-TYO leg and JPY40,000 “plus tax” for the flight on to LHR.

They do still have the signs on the check-in counters. I've tried couple of times but without luck. Last time was May last year in HND lounge where they said that no seats are available any more for upgrades. But the cost is attractive and it sure is always worth a try.

IIRC, upgrades to business class are fare difference (i.e. there are no deals)...
