I noticed a few years ago JAL cancelled the 787 flights planned for Sydney narita as there was a concern with the GE engines handling the high winds [I think that was the issue ]jetstar uses the 787 I think scoot also does and ANA are introducing the 787 on the Sydney haneda flight starting dec 2015 I noticed JAL are still using the 777 does anyone know why this is so thanks milsy:?:
 
I don't know the specific answer to your question, but I would guess that part of the reason behind using the 777 is that it fits more passengers. It also allows them to offer First class on the route.
