I'm booking Hotel Borobudur for my forthcoming trip to Jakarta for five days. Would like to hear of tips, advice for dining and entertainment.

Foreigner, noticed your Accor Platinum, recommend reconsider and book into Pullman Thamrin (used to be Hotel Nikko).
Just spent 4 nights there on the 50% off deal for around AUD 85.00 per night.

Bonus for Plats are;
An all day refreshment of coffee, tea, juice and soft drink at Le Chocolat
Drinks (includes coughtails) and Tapas privilege at Kemixtri Gastro Bar 6-10PM
Buffet Breakfast at Sara Sini Restaurant.

Negative is there's a lot of work going on at Jalan Thamrin constructing the Jakarta MRT, due to be finished in 2018.

Jaya Pub is good for a beer and live music, food is not that crash hot.

Traffic is horrible at times, cabs are cheap.
SilverBird (generally C-Class Mercedes) are not a massive premium and very cheap by Aussie standards
- their main company BlueBird is viewed as the more reputable taxi company.

Plaza Indonesia, near the Kempinski Hotel, Grand Hyatt and opposite the aforementioned Pullman, is probably the nicest shopping mall, with some decent restaurants and bars included. Immigrant Bar on the top floor is very nice.

Booked Hotel Borobudur this morning.

In most major Asian cities one is spoil for choice with food. Jakarta is no exception.

I know what traffic is like. Hope it isn't worse than my last visit in 2012. Here's pic of Jl. Sudirman which then was car-free on Sundays (not sure if that's one Sunday a month or every Sunday). It was a joy to breath deeply and stand on street without fear of being knocked over by motor vehicles.
