My J upgrade from PE on 2/6 just came tbrough at t-60 on QF127, woo hoo!

I've been auto allocated 1A downstairs. Have i been lucky enough to get one of tbe old F seats I've read about ? It looks to be a single on the seat map whereas the upper deck is 2x2 seating ?

Plenty of seats available up and down

Thanks for any comments

I just checked EF and it looks like you're in luck. MrsSQ380 and I had 1A & 1B on a re-furbed to LAX last year and they were next to each other with 1E & 1F across the way (about 30cm away).

Enjoy

If there is only 1A and 1K, with four rows in the front cabin then it will be the old F cabin.

If it's three rows in the front cabin 1AB and 1JK then it's the new skybed MkII

I am supposed to be in 5B on QF127 on 03/06/2016. I was in 4K in the old first end of last year.

My preference would be 5B/5J in business rather that the old first.

Thanks for the quick reply Ben. Yes there are 4 rows on the seat map per MelTraveller so old F & it will be a great blast from the past to my first ever F flight many moons ago

Yeah but you also prefer Y to J JohnK...
Not if you were giving away the business class seat.

I prefer to stay in 43H rather than op-up to any premium economy seat except for premium economy bulkhead/exit row seat. No brainer really. The space in front of me is more important than the space behind me.

I would prefer a 140,000 QFF points Oneworld award over a 120,000 point to point business class award. Or even book 2 point to point trips in economy.

You can see I love flying. I don't see economy as a burden as some on AFF. Perceived comfort is not worth the asking price. Looks like my international travel will double in the next 3-4 years. Need to budget travel money wisely and still travel in zig zags.

not quite, at least from what I could see. I took MEL-HKG and HGK-MEL it recently, it's 4 seats per row for rows 1 and 2, with the same business class seats as the rest, as far as I could see. Main benefit is a storage space/coat hanger space right in front between the two sides on row 1. Row 2 aisle might be better as the other side is further away from you, personal preference though. Row 3 has 6 seats (2-2-2), but the middle ones have additional storage in front of them and no other seat in front, so it's also a different take on it as it seems to give you more space, I didn't mind 3E. It still gives the feeling of a small cabin with only 14 people, more intimate even than the upper deck :)
Agree for downstairs, 5B/K would be better as no other seat next to them, just a storage bin - but then with more people in the cabin. 5K wins due to not being next to the door, ie. if you're early you don't get stepped on by the other J people walking in (at least when loading in HK, I think loading in MEL the door was next to the stairs).

And for what it's worth I reckon the new J seats in the 330 are way better, I'd go to another port to fly to HK on those, usually it's about $20 extra to do MEL-BNE-HKG compared to MEL-HKG, if MEL is a 747 and BNE a 330 ...

Just to report back.

Yes, it was the old first, i was very happy in 1A, nice private cabin but Getting a very tired worn look. When i first flew 1A it was such a buzz & so flash, how times / expectations have changed :)

Upgrade on the way back came through at t-25. Refurb, 5A was available so i took that on the advice from JohnK. Damn good single seat, woud take it again.

If i had to choose on the old kit i would take 1A over it though

5B? My mistake was walking back into economy and noticing someone in 43K but 43HJ vacant. Cut me up both times. :(
