I purchased some Alaska Miles in the hope of using them for a trip in early august (PER-HKG//HKG-PER). However there seems to be no availability to get to HKG in J, only Y.

I have some USDM miles (around 40k or so, but purchasing more isn't so much of a problem), QFF Miles (only 60k), and Alaska Miles (60k).

I actually need to get to Beijing (PEK), but was going to use CX to get to HKG in J and then fly a paid sector to PEK.

It now looks like I will have to fly Y, all the way to PEK. I am a gold QFF.

What would be my best chance of getting a J seat to HKG or PEK (ideal)?

I am now thinking, I might just have to buy a PER-PEK//PEK-PER ticket on CX and hope for upgrade love due to status. I don't believe I can use QFF points to upgrade on a CX ticketed flight?

Cx usually release any excess J seats closer to travel dates so you could always book a Y seat and then keep looking to see if a j seat gets released.

Up to 60 days prior travel Alaska don't charge anything to change flights/move up classes. Within that 60 days of travel it's $125 for each ticketed change.

Have you called up to see if they have T class available being premium economy? None of the searches will show premium economy availability.

No you can't use QF points to upgrade on CX
Thanks.

Whats the availability from the East Coast like.
Pretty bad around my dates (around 5-7 August) and it would add a fair amount of time going Per-Syd-Hkg-Pek.

Thank you. I will call them tonight in case the QFF website is not accurately displaying CX availability for Alaska Airlines. I supposed if i make a change to the whole itinerary (i.e. cancel it and just buy a revenue ticket) then they would charge $125? Or $125x2 since its a return flight?

The only problem is that the longer I leave it, the higher the revenue flight prices become. I guess that' the price we pay (pardon the pun) !

Avianca will probably have another 2x1 bonus next month, perhaps going via SQ?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That's typically to Asia Miles redemptions I think not partner programs so not much help unfortunately.

Probably better luck getting availabilty via the east coast on QF
