J/F lap sash belt

FWP: I really don’t like the sash belt. It digs into my shoulders because my shoulders are higher that the sash. It’s fairly uncomfortable.

Car sashes have a height adjustment which is not available on aircraft

I note the pilots have a 4 point - double sash. Must be uncomfortable.

Yes it rubs against the corner of shoulder and neck. Still, better to have on than not but annoying.

They actually have a 5 point harness. I guess you can work out where the 5 strap goes. I never undid mine unless I was getting out of the seat....it's hard to fly if you aren't tightly strapped in.

The military harnesses (on the bang seats) left bruises and welts. If you weren't marked by them, they were not tight enough.

I've always figured it had to do with the brace position and reaching the seat in front. Given they are typically installed on otherwise lie flat seats it would make sense, especially since they are only for takeoff / landing.

The economy seats will all fold forward if you give them a push, so I suspect the upper mounting point for a belt would be an issue.

Yes. Reminds me of a video trip report (QF F I think) where the vlogger wore the shoulder harness the entire flight, including while eating meals. No a hint of turbulance.

Dunno what was worse, the pax wearing it or the QF cabin crew that didn't think to tell him that he could undo it.

Sashes or airbags seem to be used if seats are on an angle (like herringbone) or if facing forward in cases where you might be able to hit your head on some other side surface.

I don't recall them being on the fully open, full forward seats (like the ones used on TK's 777s, Air China's A330s or Air India's 787s which you can see in the photo here: Airline review: Air India Dreamliner business class)

That would be unusual. Looks like it has gone out of position some how? Other pictures of those seats show the airbag over the lap in the 'standard' position. (If you were to leave the retracting part of the belt hooked up to the buckle part of the belt it would pull the airbag up with it as it retracted.) I'll be on that plane in a few weeks I'll check it out.

I really don't like them as they are very uncomfortable/too tight. I wear it under sufferance, but remove it as soon as the seatbelt sign is off. Leaving the lap belt on, of course.

Taking off the sash has an unintended consequence.
The buckle sometimes dissapear having been retracted through the slot in the seat. Then it has to be extracted. Annoying. And has happened to me.

Ah ok so it’s an airbag.
I’m assuming it’s not out of position because it appears to be stitched in to the sash seatbelt at the top in the picture.
