Due to reduction in our route deal on QF to our head office in the US, a DCIRC26 (26,000 mile Circle Pacific) is now more expensive than the route deal. This means to use the Circle Fare with a sight seeing flight thrown I need to use the 22,000 mile version and therefore, from MEL I need to route via NRT instead of HKG. This of course means using AA instead of CX , and using whatever lounge they use in NRT instead of the Wing at HKG :( Has anyone experienced J class on an AA 777?

I'm thinking going west mightn't be too bad, as it is entirely a day flight, but am expecting it to be inferior to CX, and at least the QF sectors to NRT are now on Skybed equipped A333's instead of 763s and 743s. My other option maybe start to the circle from SYD to route via HKG, which just fits in that way I get CX service and some time in the Wing as well.

I have flown ORD-NRT in J on AA 777 and found it to be quite a pleasent flight. Its a daytime flight, so the lack of bed config is not a bit issue. I actually find the AA 777 and 763 J seats to be quite comfortable for sitting, and they have huge leg room and easy to get out with the person next to you fully reclined. IFE is their weak point.

Food is similar to QF and quite acceptible. If you are OneWorld Emerald you can use the Flagship Lounge at ORD which is very nice.

AA has an AC at NRT. But when I did that flight I was connecting to a QF flight NRT-BNE so changed to the other terminal and used the JL lounge that QF use.

I am in the middle of an AA award.Flew NRT-LAX.A J award and got to sit in their seats.Good leg room and recline well but obviously not as good as a skybed or JALs shell bed. However after in the seat for 5 minutes the gate agent came aboard saying there was a problem with the boarding pass.Must have seen the panic in my eyes so quickly flashed the new first class boarding passes. So didnt get to see how the J seats stood up to an overnight flight.
Incidentally the menu and wine list in first was identical to business class.
PS AC in NRT was a good deal better than JAL lounge IMHO.
