The "bad" thing about this promo is that I now base all hotels that I choose on if they are available on hoteclub.com/amex.

11.5 points per $1 is sensational!!!!

Not for me.

I travel for fun and pleasure...and Location, Location, Location is always No.1.
I fail to see why you would stay somewhere just for some extra points when another hotel in a location more suited achieves one's real goal.

In addition:

  • some of these hotels only result in the deposit being paid through the site with the result that the minimum spend to gain the bonus point is not reahed.
  • ditto on one night stays as well.

True to a point but on my recent trip to Europe.

About $5000 spent on accommodation...

One hotel I booked directly with the hotel as it was the better choice
One hotel I booked with Amex Travel as they gave me 5 x bonus points.

But the other $4400 was spent with Hotelclub as the hotel were highly ranked, in a pretty good location and the extra 44,000 points is too good to refuse!

Say I make a booking for a stay in July, but the credit card is deducted this month. Do I get the bonus points this month? or only is rewarded after the stay?

Interesting that the T&C say:

Offer valid for bookings made between 3 May 2010 and 31 December 2010.

And Amex is still promoting it on their 'bonus partners' page

IS everone else finding that the hotels are more expensive than expedia or is it just me?

I'm looking at the Fairmont Singapore 17-22nd May and the base room is about $220 more, for a total ~1650. So should I pay that much for a bonus 16000 points?

Jon

I should add that I do extensive research before using HotelClub to make a booking! In terms of using it solely for hotel bookings, I do a ton of research and ensure the hotel is located in a good position and rated highly on Tripadvisor...

Even if I make a small sacrifice for the hotel, IE: Slightly further away from the train line or whatever, it's worth it for the bonus points. I will also pay a little extra to book through HotelClub to get the points.

As for making a sacrifice on the hotel, of course I will do that for say 10,000 points.. An extra 10 mins or a slightly higher rate is well worth it for more points!!!!

Honestly I have never used Expedia, have had friends use it and been put in the lower category rooms etc etc.

In Australian $$$

Booking Directly $1980
HotelClub $ 1682
Expedia $ 1448

For $234 for 16820 I would say YES!!!!!

Ensure you book at Earn 10 Membership Rewards Bonus Points for every $1 spent on transactions of $350 or more though!!!! Ensure that it's FULL PREPAYMENT otherwise you miss out on the points. Pretty sure it was though when I just looked at the prices

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've made quite a few bookings through expedia and never had a problem with room type, finding my reservation or anything else. In fact, as they do not charge a fee for cancellations (though you pay up front) I thought they would take ages refunding my money like the big airlines etc. They actually had my money refunded on my CC within 48 hours so that I could use it immediately.

And for anyone looking to book the Fairmont Singapore off its own website, the standard availability search does not give the best rates. You have to search via the "fairmont savers plus" link, code PSDA

Okay, still chasing up my missing bonus points

Hotelclub is shocking to deal with and have no idea and just handball it back to Amex. Emails from them are hopefully and are pretty much a script reply. This is the 3rd time I have emailed them, for time for this matter. The other 2 matters I emailed them about received very poor replies that didn't address what I asked them

Amex handball it back to Hotelclub as they are the ones that "pay" for the points.

Sighs

If I ever got in that situation, I'd be tempted to do a chargeback/s - that will teach hotelclub a lesson ;)

HA ha ha - I actually "mentioned" that in my email to them, but it didn't even get a response..

I spoke again to Amex and got a VERY helpful rep who passed the bookings/payments/missing points onto the marketing department for follow up and promised me a call back in 5-7 days with the outcome.

As soon as I mentioned missing bonus points, he asked "Was it Hotelclub?"

He did mention he had personally taken lots of calls about missing Hoteclub bonus points.

Will update with the outcome, but I did make anothe Hoteclub booking last week.

Of note, the price was the same as booking directly with the hotel and it was my 1st choice of hotel :D

Towards the end of the year I'll be making as many booking as possible for next years travel and should get a nice 100,000+ points bonus!!!

I got a flyer in relation to this offer from ANZ for use presumably with my ANZ Amex.

Information is too conflicting for me to actually go with the deal though. The ANZ flyer says valid until Dec 2011, the hotelclub site in T&C's says it expired Dec 2010. Not only that but its pretty clear the deal is not for anything except directly issued Amex cards, so it seems Hotelclub wouldn't honour the deal with the ANZ issues Amex anyway ...

Sigh....

Punters must be getting disappointed in droves by all this type of baloney. Its really starting to seem to me that across all the cards and FF programs the so-called 'partners' are just a waste of time and money.

Inevitably someone in the chain, whether it be the FF program, the bank or the merchant themselves doesn't know whats going on and the punter gets to lose out with no-one caring.

I think, as others have suggested, you have to take a copy of the web page as proof of an advertised deal, then, when you are ultimately diddled for points as seems to happen so often, make one phone call and if not fixed then and there backcharge the cost to get the merchants proper attention.

Is it not possible to book multiple hotels at the same time?
I am going to NZ for 3 weeks but going to 9 different towns.

Still waiting for points to be posted from Hotelclub transactions in Jan and therafter... some 10000 points to come...

G'day team,

Does the bonus offer work with an ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card? I got the brochure in the mail with my card but the terms and conditions seem to say that you have to pay an additional fee to receive the bonus points.

If so, are the bonus points Amex points, or will they directly post to QFF as do my normal points earn on this card?

I could ring Amex but I know the best way to get the correct answer is to ask here:).

Thanks,

JV

I'm deeply suspicious of these offers I have to say. See my post #33 above. Still no resolution. HotelClub doesn't seem to care, ANZ doesn't care saying its a card issue, ANZ cards despite taking my call and making the right noises has not got back to me.

Probably you could make this work if you just kept hacking away at it or if you were prepared to just take a punt ... it would probably work itself out - but its too much effort in my world.

Is there an easy way to chase them? I am not looking forward to making the phone call:-|

I am guessing ANZ FF cards are ineligible as they do not earn "Membership Rewards" points as such but rather earns QF points. If you log into your ANZ internet banking, and look at how many points you have earnt for the month, it clearly specifies/states its QF points.
