I'm looking at spending a long break in, say Italy/France, for say 4 months, starting later this year in, say July.

Does anyone have any website or contact recommendations that aren't focussed on the short-term tourist market?

I've never used AirBnB but a quick look there seems to give nightly rates mostly (in AUD!?!).

We're looking for a village type experience.

I think you can get monthly rate on AirBnB as well. A friend's just booked her 6 months stay in Bangkok via AirBnB. She told me that the rate will change based on your check in & check out dates.

In my 2014 trip, I found some BnB accommodations in small Italian villages/towns listed on AirBnB.

I used to use VRBO back in 2013 and they are still around now. Perhaps, check it out?
