Finally getting around to booking the flights for an upcoming trip, and am tossing up a Star Alliance business class vs just paying for some segments

One of the options is to fly British Airways - Club Word - Tokyo to London -

Is a AUD $2800 fare a good price (one way), for a restrictive fare - direct from BA

or is there a cheaper option?

does anyone know if this is a good route to get a new plane (if I am forking over that much I want to know its going to be good)

Another option is to fly to Hong-Kong and go via Air New Zealand to London, might that be better

Eager for the experts opinions as if this is a nice price we will look at booking it

Flew that route late 2008 in F at a cost of AUD$10k one way. Personally I would think that AUD$2800 is good value for a 12 hour flight in J one way. Also the BA 747's were far from new planes.

Cheers this is good to know - there seems to be so much competition in business class nowadays which is great

we were planning the traditional RTW business class, until we started pricing up individual long sectors + a cruise (and a bit of economy in the US) - looks quite good :)
