Is SYD running short of parking gates?

JQ 15 pax had to board at gate 27 today. From there, passengers were transported to the airplane on three extended coaches. Departure was delayed 35 minutes.

Of course not. There's capacity there to last until 2050 or something like that.

It's gonna be like FRA - plenty of remote gates with buses running all over the place.

Of course, I don't see JQ beating a drum for more jetbridges. They are low cost, so they'll take whatever they can get without having to hand over more money to SACL. So, probably a bad example.

On the other hand, there have been a couple of times where I have arrived on a non-JQ international flight and we've been told to wait whilst a jetbridge is vacated for us. Since I take it that not every jetbridge is the same (so it's not like a parking lot situation - doesn't matter the car park, it's a car park) and there are certain assigned jetbridge gates for flights, I'm not entirely sure whether more jetbridges are required.

Naturally, if SYD is to grow on its current premises, then the answer is yes, they are running short.

I had the same on a QF flight in January. We were bussed to the cargo terminal where we boarded using stairs.

No priority boarding either. I walked past the masses to the scanners, and the others that had followed me from the F lounge did the same.

I wasn't impressed. I had to have two glasses of sparkling upon boarding to calm down! :)

I've had the same at MEL, the plane was sitting over at the cargo terminal and we where bused across. It was a full 747 as well (stairs up to a 747 was something I thought I'd never get to do).
Admittedly this was before (or during I don't remember) MEL T2's upgrade.

No, SYD is just short of space for more shops and parking - since that is the priority at the moment

A couple of months ago, I was on a fully loaded BA15, and we had to use the busses. Obviously, most passengers were annoyed, having to wait for busses after spending 20+ hours on a 744.

I was a happy camper though - not very often you would get to use the stairs with a 744, and see it from the ground with it right next to you. As an added bonus, the bus gave way to a QF A380 being towed, passing by right in front.
