Is Platinum worth it?

Hi all. I am reaching platinum by the end of my membership year (may) and I was wondering if it is worth it to try to renew it again next year. I am only 16, 17 in May and I travel a lot on my own so the F lounge at MEL is out of the question and I'm going to be flying MEL-SIN with QF in J.

Sorry if anything doesn't make sense, I'm typing on mobile.

Thanks, calmelb

If I've read this right, you are reaching Platinum in this membership year (ending May 2015) so you'll have it through until May 2016 when you turn 18 anyway won't you? You get it for the rest of the year you earn it in plus the following year.

After that, you'll be 18 and have access to all OW Flounges if still Platinum so I'd say it's well worth shooting for if you have the opportunity.

In the meantime while you are still 16 and 17, I'd try Alanlegal's idea of trying to guest in a random "responsible adult" to the Flounges when you get the chance and see how you go.

The problem is I turn 18 in May 2016 and I don't do any flying until June! Just missed out! I'll try to gift an adult in, is there someplace on here to advertise a entry?

Lounge meet ups.
It can be a great way to meet fellow AFF'rs.

For some of us, that rule hasn't applied for a very long time...:rolleyes:

Staff in WA kept asking me if I was an intern(first year doc).:D:cool:
Didn't know whether to thank them or advise a trip to an optometrist.:p:)

Age aside, I think WP is really only worth chasing over SG if you travel at least a bit internationally. I've been an almost exclusively domestic WP for a while now, and I don't really think it's worth it.

Indeed, my flying patterns have changed dramatically in the last year or so, and I'm not going to requalify for WP at the end of next month unless I do a fairly significant SC run (have never done one before) ... I need about 350 SCs. I'm not considering it. SG will do me.

I only need about 60 SCs to hit LTG, so I suspect SG is where I'll now settle - unless I see a lot of International travel in my future at at point.

It's horses for courses, YMMV and all that.

After dropping back to SG, the main things I miss about WP domestically are arrivals lounge access and the JQ Flounge runs.

But a few things worked in my favour to make those parts particularly valuable for me.

1. I have to travel SYD-MEL-SYD fairly often anyway and have a fair bit of control over that schedule so JQ Flounge runs are easy to make convenient; and
2. I live in a rural area so frequently have long waits post-flight before a REX connection, where arrivals lounge access is great.

So WP is worth it for me, even just domestically. (I need to get cracking again!) All depends on individual circumstances.

Tend to agree here. Especially being Perth based as there's been no domestic J Lounge to take advantage of. On the eastern seaboard I do notice the improvement in the food offerings over the standard lounges.

LOL, was this in person or on email? :p

Well hopefully the Perth Domestic J lounge will be open soon!
