Is NAB going to "keep" Diners?

So, I was intrigued ….

If you are actually interested in acquiring a Diners Club card and you live in Australia, you can’t actually do it anymore.

The Diners Club website says they are now owned by NAB and directs you there. There is no application option on the DC website.

The Citi website says they’ve closed the card.

And the NAB website makes no mention of it

That’s a shame. Presumably the intent is to let it wither & die?

Maybe we should start a thread “Strategy to obtain a US Diners Club” 😜

I agree, it's a real shame if there isn't even a way to apply anymore. My Diners does say it's issued by NAB and the Citi Branding is gone. My DC doesn't see much if any daylight but the MC is currently my AMEX Backup. Would be a shame to see it go - having said that, it still doesn't and never will support Apple Pay so just a matter of me having the physical card for when I need to use it - I'm thinking I might need to succumb to reality and get another backup MC/Visa. It's a shame as there aren't any other MC Charge cards that I can find anywhere - not sure I'd be jumping out of my skin to get a US DC unless of course there is a compelling reason to do so?

Do you know why? It is a feature of US Diners Club Cards - they allow Apple, Google & Samsung Pay

That would be a bit frustrating .... I don't carry a wallet anymore

I'm quite happy with my Diners card, which I've had for 20+ years, as it gets me into lounges all over the place when I can't access a lounge via my OWE or *G status. Long may it reign.

I think the problem with that is:

- US Diners Club cards are actually Mastercards issued by BMO Montreal. Discover owns the master global Diners Club franchise, but this has excluded Diners Club US and Canada since the 2000's.
- For a while now they have not been taking applications for consumer cards anymore: "Our Consumer card application is unavailable while we make improvements" (Diners Club - Consumer Cards)

The Diners Club brand has been seriously mismanaged for some time now, the Italian franchise is in liquidation and the UK one is now a purely business-to-business statement account service (Diners Club International - Making business payments easy). Which is sad because it should have been a proper premium global payment brand above Amex if they had done it right.
