Hi,

I am booking J class tickets via Etihad (MEL-BOM) and have got a quote from AmericanExpress Travel services.
Amex price is 100$ less as compared to Etihad's website price.

However before booking, I just wanted to know if there are any pros of booking it via Etihad or any cons of booking via Travel Agent ?
I am planning to upgrade from J to F using points. Would I be able to do it if I book via Amex ?

Need some expert advise :)

Thank You

There shouldn't be any downside and you'll be able to use point to upgrade in same way, so long as the booking classes are eligible to upgrade, etc.

Often travel agencies will have specific fares or campaigns in market which are better than the airline website hence why it's wise to shop around.

Agree with AviationNZ, but would add that, working through the TA, make sure they put your details as the ones for contact by the airline (ie direct) in case of issues. Often TAs want to remain in control of their bookings, and that's OK, except when you need to know about issues ASAP. I would expect AMEX to have 24hr service, but check that too.

I use a TA (not AMEX) and have no problems upgrading fares through airline web sites.
