Is free baggage about to be "enhanced"?

Just logged in to the Qantas website to check whether the 10 points per dollar spend on Qantas vouchers has come through yet (it hasn't) and then checked my booking to LAX for March.

Apparently on the way back I have no baggage allowance, but can pre-purchase a bag from $123?!?

Of course I have my platinum allowance so not fussed, but does this mean another "enhancement" is coming?

I think you have to expand the second leg by clicking the arrow down next to "Melbourne" to see your allowance?

Yes; I also have an int'l itinerary which looks just like the pic above, until I expand it, revealing allowance and opportunity to purchase more.

Also a good example of how little we trust QF these days, that most of us could easily believe this would happen :)

If QF ever charged for baggage it would make them even closer to an LCC and I feel it would be the end of them internationally. Yes I am aware that NZ do offer fares across the ditch with HLO don't think they do on Long routes.

Not even QF idiots could be that stupid surely....

Just another example of the QF & VA work experience kids running the IT departments.
Not at all! It's not inconceivable this is deliberate - encouraging value-adding by making PAX think they need to purchase a checked luggage allowance ...

I have two upcoming bookings that show no baggage at all - just a dash in the baggage allowance field - as well as the purchase option. Both bookings are in Business, one is an upgrade the other an AA award redemption. Do they just not show baggage allowance for U Class?

No - this is typical of how MMB shows bookings which are either not QF ticketed (001-), have been "played with", or are otherwise different from the norm.

The baggage allowance should be encoded against each segment in the e-ticket; however Qantas MMB may not have access to the full e-ticket information (e.g. AA award) and/or have changes done which may vary the allowance and/or simply be encoded to not display anything for changed bookings lest incorrect information be displayed.

I have an ADLSYDHKG return in two weeks, flying in J. The outbound in MMB says I have no baggage allowance and must purchase; the inbound allows me 40kg. I'm going to be spending several hours in both Wing F and the QF lounge before flying home so I'm assuming QFIT has granted me weight allowance for HKGSYD based on the calorific lounge hopping and Moet consumption?
