Is Budget Rental Car always this hopeless at MEL?

Was flying into MEL yesterday and had a rental car booked for 11:30am pickup, it seems like they had oversold their cars and I finally got a car at 12.45. Had just booked a Kia Cerato or similar - nothing oddball or unusual. The delay meant that I wasn't able to get everything done in Melbourne that I was supposed to :-(

Anyone else had this happen before? The staff were pretty rude, certainly didn't seem to think that it was their problem!

It's the nature of car rental these days I'm afraid. Here's an example of what routinely goes on.

Just mentioned this as I was thinking of renting a car there and dropping off after hours. I'll be sticking to public transport.

It was a pretty unsatisfactory experience with Budget - wasn't impressed at all!

Happens to me in MEL regularly... Last week they swore my booking had been cancelled. When I insisted they show me -- they had the wrong rental (someone else's name). When they actually entered my name -- they again said my booking had been cancelled. NOT impressed.

As they seldom use their Rapid Rez boards -- I used their app, found what bay my car was in -- then advised the rep that NO, my car was sitting ready for me in their lot. They apologised and blamed it on the previous shift.

So YES, seems many car rental locations have lost the plot.

Avis Adelaide airport is my problem one. I don’t think any are better or worse just different ‘bad’ service.
