Hi all

With the release of the iPhone this Friday I was wondering how many if any of us have ordered one and which way people are swinging carrier wise.

I ordered two yesterday (for me and wife) through 3 / Vodafone as upgrades to our existing plans (3GS) - expecting delivery 5 - 7 working days after launch day...

Let's see if that happens.

Has anyone ordered on direct from Apple?

My mother has already called dibs on my 3GS...

I ordered one at around 6:50pm on Friday on the online Apple store. The ordering system was supposed to open at 6pm (midnight Pacific Time) - and I was there waiting... - but for some reason it stayed offline internationally for about 45 minutes or so. Anyhow my order status is showing “delivery by 14 October”. I don’t know whether that means I’ll get it on the day (my iPad 2 was delivered on the day that it was due to be sold in stores when ordered the same way) but either way I’ll have it within a few days of launch.

I am with Telstra so I’ll just swap the SIM over. Marge gets her long-awaited upgrade from 3GS to 4 with my hand-me-down. :)

We had the local Retravision store sorted to have five iPhone 4S (or 5) for when ever they were released. They will replace 2 iPhone 3, 1 iPhone3GS and 2 iPhone 4. We plan to pick them up subject to availability next Monday.

I am a Telstra Dealer and have a list and there is app 40 to 50 on it and we have no idea what the plans are going to be like.

I actually had 10 to 15 pre orders before the phone was released.

I had to submit a order of what I want and I ordered 70 and will probably only get a few at launch.

Telstra website is taking preorders, minimum cost for 64gb iphone is $1728
over 24 months on a $59 Freedom Connect Plan.

Ive just ordered one through Telstra, upgrading from the 3GS and moving over from Optus. no $49 cap on offer but happy to move up to $59 as the phone cost is much lower than what i paid 2 years ago.

About to order a Telstra 64GB 4Gs. Switching from Optus. Tossing up between buying it online and trying my chance at a Telstra store...

I will have stock for 8am Friday...

Most T shops should have stock as well.

PM me if you want one..

There is a comparison table of plans at the SMH.

I have a 3GS (16GB, given after nearly 2 years I have ~12.5 GB free space, I suspect that is sufficient :)) and and am seriously considering a 4S when my contract with Optus concludes (December I think). and I may go to Telstra, as much as I am not keen on them as a company. They seem to have some decent plans now and coverage is sometimes an issue with Optus.

that's an understatement; I lack covererage in some of melbournes main suburbs! Didn't used to be that way when I first went with optus.

Telstra online order is easy, just need to wait for the phone call then apparently the phone will be delivered.

I have an iPhone 4, quite happy with it so won't upgrade yet.
I have been with Telstra for years and never had any issues with coverage, big issues with international roaming charges though

We have a cheap pre paid sim from Telstra which we use when travelling into the country as a backup because the coverage is excellent. Our plans are with Optus but we are finding that recently we are getting no coverage and/or frequent drop outs where we shouldnt.

A lot of people have issue with International Roaming charges but IME all carriers are about the same price, Voda is probably overall a bit cheaper due to having a big international presence.

I've ordered a 16GB Black 4S for my wife. She'll pop her Amaysim SIM into it. MrsM is upgrading from her Nokia E71.

The order was placed at about 5:45 QLD time last Friday and its status is currently Preparing for Shipment (ships by October 14th).

It would be disappointing not to get hers on the 14th, yet know that folks have walked into shops and picked one up. Not the end of the world though.

My order was placed around the same time and has the same status. However I think we might both be disappointed unless the devices are already in the country. One thing to remember though is that many folks won’t have just walked in and picked one up. Those committing to a two-year contract at Telstra, etc, might be able to get one tomorrow (though not everybody will get a phone) but only the lucky early birds at the Apple Store will be able to buy a phone outright if the US experience is anything to go by. So unless you’re prepared to line up early and for a long time (and I’m not) then I think the delivery option is still a pretty sound one.

It's an already delayed birthday present for MrsM, but she's not too worried.

One of the MissMs is very keen to experience the Apple Store line-up thing and would be at Robina at midnight in a heartbeat. I'm still happy to wait for the courier.

As for being in the country, there's a fair bit of internet chat about shipping from China, but if the stores will have them, then at least some must be here already. Maybe we'll be OK.

I did the line up experience thing for the iPhone 4 and I think it’s over-rated :). I hope the internet rumours are right and, as you say, Apple definitely has stock in the country because their stores would have received them in the last few days or even today. Fingers crossed!

How do you find out the status, or is that through Apple directly?

I had a phone call from Telstra this morning to confirm my order; they said officially it could be up to two weeks, but likely to be less than that.
