iOS 8 Discussion.

I haven't updated to iOS8 as it's not suitable for the 4S. I've actually deleted the update so I don't accidentally install it without thinking. Unfortunately neither the 5S or the 6 comes with a country blue tick so are no good to me living in a rural area with very limited reception. I might end up having to change to a Samsung Galaxy 5 when the 4S eventually dies.
iOS 8 runs on the 4S and above so you can.

Another thing which isn't working for me is AirPlay. I have updated my AppleTV software and can start screening things from my iPhone by switching it on via the command centre but the connection drops out every minute or so. I tried to watch the 60 minutes Boneyard story this way last night and gave up.
Prior to iOS8 I had rock solid ability to use AirPlay, it's now completely useless

I had the same thing last night when listening to some music. Except that was on my MBA running Mavericks - hmmm.

I did use 'remote' on my 5S with iOS8, which may explain it.

I didn't know the 4S did either.

I have the 4S and can see no reason to upgrade it until it dies. I did hate the upgrade where all the nice app icons changed to awful drawings that remind me of the stick figures on rear windows of cars. Give me back the nice beefy icons they had previously.

The only Maverick I know of is a fabulous George Thorogood album.......but I'm guessing you aren't suggesting you were playing that?

Today I open iPad and complete list of 50 odd Bookmarks all disappeared - coughk me!

Edit: Restore from a backup 2 days ago and now all Bookmarks returned - never a dull moment huh!

So far I've updated my iPad2. No obvious disasters.

However, it now seems to run a lot slower (certainly reading National Geographic e-edition in Newsstand on the way over to JFK from SFO just now [excellent in F on the AA A321T, BTW], it often took several swipes to move to the next page if it was graphics-heavy.)

Hopefully it's the app that needs fixing.

I'm going to hold off updating my 5s until I get home in about 4 weeks.

That happens occasionally. Just close safari then do the other close, where you swipe to close. When you reopen they should have all returned.

I have read a couple of articles that say one should not upgrade to iOS8 for older iPads since the new OS has higher performance demands making if only suitable for newer iPads and iPhone 4S+. But Goggle the issue for more details.

Our iPads upgraded without issues (iPad 4 and iPad Mini) and my iPhone 5 upgraded fine (although one needs to do this from iTunes plugged in because of the memory requirements).

Officially, yes, but as an owner of a 4S (and iPad 2) I'm not rushing to update given that there's a good chance that iOS 8 will run too slowly on my devices. Certianly people with iPhone 4 found things sluggish when updating to iOS 7. It's also usually very difficult to go back once you update iOS. That and a lack of obvious benefits or new features with iOS 8 means I'll wait a while for the issues to surface before deciding if to update.

It's definitely slowed down the iPad2 but because I'm travelling and in some scratchy WiFi zones at present (Antofagasta, Chile right now and much more remote locations to come over the next couple of weeks), I'll have to hold final assessment until I'm home in a month.

It's all a dastardly Apple plot...

Since I have upgraded to iOS8 on iPad Air I am finding it impossible to add pics to posts - anybody else experiencing similar?

Admin any thoughts? Also Admin - title thread really annoying me - I think it should be iOS 8 and not iOS8 - pls add space if it should have one.

If using a tablet - do most users access full site or use the mobile app?

well my 5C isn't liking 8 so far, tried to go to 8.0.2 from 8 last night and the phone made it through the install then died during restore, Apple Care think it's bricked so I'm off to replace it today

Bricked during an upgrade! Holy hang, what's going on with Apple these days?

Overall, I would not recommend an update to iOS 8 for iPad Air as the whole system is a little 'off' at the moment. It would appear that most apps will need updating to work properly. I have had every iPad since the original and the usability is at an all time low.

The Android style keyboard is the best improvement in iOS 8 but I use a GS4 so I am used to it and prefer it.
